New Year, Old Me

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

The the old year didn't close out and the New Year is not starting off as I anticipated. I've been on the injured list (IT band issues, bursitis--don't old people get that??--and other aches and pains) since early November and my goal was to start training on Jan. 1 for the Just a Short Run 30K (an oxymoron to be sure!). I thought that the PT sessions would cure all my aches, and I'd be as new in 2011. But that's not been the case.

The last week of December my back went "out," so on top of the PT, I'm now going to the chiropractor. Adding insult to injury, I woke up on January 1 with a terrible cold that is sucking every ounce of energy out of me. And if that isn't bad enough, my gallbladder has informed me that if I want to eat rich foods (pate anyone??) and desserts every night for a week or so, there's going to be a price to be paid. emoticon The very least it could have done was to give some warning volleys early in the celebrating so I could have scaled back before it launched its main attack (sneaky little bugger).

The good news is that I quickly went back to my sensible eating habits and the gallbladder attacks are subsiding. Another week of clean eating and they'll probably be history. Somehow I managed only to gain 2 lbs. from November to January--a normal fluctuation
emoticon. So it's not all sour grapes.

I guess after this kind of start, the year can only get better!

Hope you are feeling better and look forward to seeing you again in Pittsburgh. The best thing is there are other race distances so you can always change plans and decrease the distance if you have to. Suzy

emoticon Here you go....take two bowls of chicken soup (low salt) and call me in the morning.

You sound miserable, dear friend. Ouch and ouch of the bursitis and the IT band and on and on. Ride it out like you would a buckin' other words, just hold on and it will be over .....soon I hope.

Been there, done that on all items you listed. I feel your pain, as Bill would say. My biggest hurdle at my age is staying sound.
