An extra night in Valencia
Monday, January 03, 2011
DH likes to travel without a plan, so that he wings it. I prefer to know where I'm going to sleep at night (having been in places where I spent most of the day looking for a room for the night).
So we've compromised on most of our trips. We develop a schedule for much of the trip, I book hotels for most of the nights, and we build in a few nights where we can wing it. Maybe stay where we are, maybe go back to a place that looked good, or maybe find a new spot. Which is good since we've had to use that time to get a new passport when we were in Costa Rica. And now, we've decided to spend an extra night in Valencia. We both like the town, things were closed yesterday (Sunday), and we both wanted to visit the amazing Central Market (which is a fabulous building).
However, our hotel (which I booked online) didn't have a room available. It was a lovely hotel, although every service was extra money. But we found a nice hotel just up the pedestrian street - similar price, and with free wifi. And cheaper parking. Neither includes bkfst, but we're both happy with a croissant and coffee in a little cafe. So we're very happy.
And the market was totally worth the extra day.
So - next question - where to stop tomorrow?
We fly out of Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon. That's our next appointment. Between now and then, we're drifting. Such a nice feeling!
