2011 drama over for me already??

Saturday, January 01, 2011

so

i was sick- my last 6 days of year- had vacation- was down and sick every day

oh well- that's fine- we're still gonna start fresh as of dec 31st- my day back to work

had a good 31st- work- exercise-food

ok, now we're on a roll

leave for work this morning- 5:39 a.m.-- make it 1 block-- NO ONE's up on New Year's Day at 5:30 a.m.!!!-- this young lady- mid-twenties??? blows through a stop sign and BOOM- in the intersection- now, i always watch this corner, cuz, my way does NOT have a stop sign, the cross street does, and yes, people are bad about stopping

i have no idea where she came from- i NEVER saw her

i was driving- heard a boom- then a guy asking me if i was ok

my car is TOTALED!! 2 yrs old..........and it's in pieces........
call work
call the cops
i think i'm ok- yes- chest is sore- pretty sure it's from the seat belt and air bag, but, just sore

cops are busy- does this only happen here?? it's 8:45 when they finally show up?? 3 hours....it was below zero- my car's dead- NO HEAT!! NO ONE came out of houses and offered a warm house, or car, or bathrm- NOTHING!!

cops arrive- GUESS WHAT??? she has NO insurance........imagine that!!!

car tow-ers are running late too- BUSY.......takes til 10 a.m. for them to tow my car

did i mention- when my tow truck got there (thank you AAA)-- the young lady went and tried to get him to do HER car!!! ggrrrrr..........

I AM FREEZING!!! i finally get home.......hurt so bad decide it just can NOT be normal-- can not even move/breathe w/o pain

let's see--------where's my car??

think i'll taxi to urgent care- well sheesh.......it's a holiday

so i get a taxi to hospital-- wow-- our taxi drivers are NOT nice-- didn't help me at all as i'm walking bent over......

so then i spend 6 1/2 hrs in emergency rm.........they did take 1 look at me walking in and got me in a bed- hooked up an EKG........i've been sick- lots of coughing- well my chest hurts too bad to cough- so i'm audibly wheezing all over.......

chest x-rays- dr is more worried about my breathing than my sore chest

also x-rayed my HUGE thumb......guess i jammed it somehow

x-rays are fine- no pneumonia- nothing broken

dr just says i'll be sore for a WHILE.......a while?? is that 2 days- a month??

i can't go to work like this......i doubt i'm even gonna try and make it upstairs to bed tonight-- hurts to lay down-- think i'll try the chair

and i'm FREEZING!!! hands are like ice- i'm still in my shoes and coat from when i was at hospital.......delayed shock??

did i mention that young lady was dressed in a coat and shoes-- nothing on her legs?
by the time cops got there, no way could they tell if she was drunk

of course-- her neck and back hurt.......screaming how i better have insurance.....as she's taking pictures with her camera phone

cop believes they'll total my car out-- i don't believe that's usually a good deal.......

i still can't believe it

now i'm stopped in my daily exercise
stopped in how much i need to get done here
stopped in how much i have to do at work

just hoping............this'll be my worst of 2011???

thanx for the support ya'all

hope your New Year's started a LOT better than mine!!!

I was in an intersection accident last November and fractured a rib and extrememly bruised my R breast, back, stomach, and side. It took several weeks for the pain to get more tolerable and I still have a hard nodule left over from the hemotoma. I hope you're back in the pink by now. I was afraid to drive for months, but made myself get right back in the saddle. I totaled my car and the other guy's pick-up! (I turned in front of him)

That's rotten. I don't know if the weather, time, or date were factors in slow response of the police. If you had realized you were injured, the police should have responded faster. Unfortunately, that kind of accident, injuries are not obvious for a few hours.

back in 1989, I was driving my husband's new van home from a night class. Because of the hour, I didn't stop at the bathroom before leaving campus. I could wait a half hour until I got home. The ice had other ideas. About a mile from home, I passed an accident with rescue vehicles, started across a bridge and got hit by the wind. Sounds stupid but I went into a skid and spun around landing on the shoulder. At first it didn't register that I'd hit my head on the side window.

The police officer showed up and offered help. When I couldn't get out of the driver's door, he suggested the passenger door and took me back to his car. While he filled out the report, my neck started to hurt. He radioed the EMTs. They came, put me on a back board and balanced it on the car seat until the ambulance showed up. In the ER, one of the ambulance attendants quietly asked the nurse to get me a bed pan. It was over 2 hours since I left school.

Anyway, I had whiplash. The doctor said it could take up to a year to heal. It did. I hope your injuries aren't that serious or time consuming.

Take it gentle, eat healthy and walk while you watch TV. emoticon

My goodness I didnt realise you were in an accident at all....how terrible. This seems to be happening more and more and more and more. My mom had the identical accident at 77 yrs of age. Her car was written off too. She's incured many debts due to medical and the driver of the vehicle the went through the red traffic light has not coughed up 1 penny to assist her.
He was by no means drunk, in fact it was a Sunday morning and he was taking his children to church, but he was not concentrating and didnt see the light had changed. Still, it was his fault and you'd think he would have done the decent thing...but no ways.
She is aching and may never be the same again. She can barely walk anywhere anymore where before the accident she was as strong as an ox. She's also turned into an emotional wreck (poor old dear).
Really sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you feel a little better day by day.

Wow! 3 hours! I had an accident last year and i got upset because my JAA technician (my country's version of AAA) arrive 20 mins after the accident. That woman must have been drunk to be going on about your insurance when she is the one without insurance. But i don't understand something.....in my country, if a person is found without insurance, their car is confiscated immediately by the police and they would have been given a ticket.....isn't it the same in yours? And i'm also shocked that none of the persons in the neighbourhood tried to help you out, especially since you made it only one block, they're practically your neighbours. I hope you get better soon!

Yeah, that is a lot of drama. Well, the worst is over. Sorry you got hurt but am so glad it wasn't worse. From the looks of your blog you seem to be taking it in stride. Take care of yourself and remember it is so important to eat right since you can't get around to working out yet.

What a horrible experience. I am retired from the insurance industry. It always amazes me that so many drive without insurance, although the law requires that you have it. Do you have uninsured motorist coverage insurance on your policy? I was hit by an uninsured motorist a couple of years ago. I know is so frustrating! I hope you are feeling better. emoticon I hope all is working out with the settlement of your total loss.

That just totally sucks. Can't believe the cops took that long to get there and that no one came out to help you when it was so darn cold...That chick sounds like a drunken little you know what!!

Are you feeling any better today? I just hate that you're hurting so much...see your own doctor, maybe? Are you taking anything for the pain?

OH MY ... what a way to start the new year. Hope you are feeling better ! If you have ANY lingering troubles or problems with your insurance company you may want to contact an attorney...especially if the young lady is going to give you grief. What a nightmare. Here's hoping the rest of the year is A LOT better !

I have to agree with others who have posted... it can only get better. emoticon

Please rest and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles!!! I am just glad that nothing worse happened, it could have been a lot worse.

Don't forget, we all started this journey with "baby steps" and you will just have to go back to "baby steps" for awhile.

I hope you feel much better soon!!

OMG! I am so sorry for all that. It's horrible. Where do you live that the cops took so long to get there? It is a shame they couldn't do her alcohol test. And of course she would be hollering about your insurance. emoticon

Holy cow! I just can't help but think of how much worse you could have been injured if she did enough damage to total your car! I'm so glad you survived this. Please take care of yourself. Is work being understanding of your need to be at home resting and getting better? Be sure to follow up with your own doc if you don't feel better soon. I wish all the best for you as you resolve all these issues and I certainly DO hope this is the worst you will experience in 2011. emoticon

Oh, what a horror story! And like you said, you never even saw it/her coming!!

Just don't sign off on any insurance papers. You want to be covered if later on some small injury isn't so small, if you know what I mean.

Take care - and my prayers are with you!!!

By the way, thanks for that Goodie with the message. How did you know that suited me to a T? I'm not only not making any resolutions, I don't tell anyone my plans anymore either! Huh!

Helen Hope the rest of the year is spectacular.

I am so sorry about your accident and everything else you have been through! My thoughts and prayers are with you! Take good care of yourself and don't dare over do it!

That is how my luck goes, I have had three cars off in my yard this past year. The last one took out my wood fence, he actually knocked them about an acre into my neighbors yard, did three donuts in my yard and left the scene. My cousin chase him down, got his license number. The police caught him for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and yes no insurance. He went to jail, then we had court, but all they can do is put a judgment against him emoticon
So....my fence history and to repair it, my money!
