My One Year Spark Anniversary - Taking stock and looking forward

Well I am approaching my 1 year anniversary since I started with this site. Wow, a year can go by so fast, but as I look back over the 12 months I am happy with the changes I have made. Over the past twelve months I have quit drinking diet soda excessively and have traded it for water, incorporated exercise into my life, logged in consistently here to track my meals and exercise and have a more healthier outlook on what I do. I am more mindful of what I eat, even if it is something I overindulge in! But best of all I have stopped beating myself up when I do go off. I just get up, brush myself off and keep on going. I am also 17 lbs. lighter than I was around this time last year. Not alot of weight, but I have never started off a year weighing less than I did the year before - another first. I think Sparkpeople has changed my whole approach to life in general. It has made me realize that no matter what my weight I am deserving of good things and I am enjoying life more. I am sure there are alot more things that have changed but I think I have hit the important ones!

My goals for 2011 - to be more aware of my meal portions and have more control over my intake of treats. I know that part of this whole thing is that no food is off limits but I think I have overdid that the past year and that has kept my weight loss down. I am going to plan for my "treats" and also have better control over my portions of those. I think between that and consistent exercise I can be where I want to be in 2011. I know where my shortcomings have been and that is what I will fix this year. I need to make better food choices and make sure I have good balanced meals in front of me. I tend to be a little heavy on the carbs and need to put in more fruits and vegetables! So that is my plan for now, but I will change and adjust as I go along, but I know I can do this and so can you. 2011 will be the year that WE MAKE OUR GOALS!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Good for you and congratulations on the 17# loss! I have to say that reading your blog has turned my thinking around. I joined last January and the past few days I have been thinking about how inspired I was then and how I just knew I'd lose tons of weight. Sixteen pounds later, I have been disappointed, to say the least. But, like you, I need to focus on the positives. The good chages I've made and the fact that I'm lighter ending the year than I was starting it. Thanks for an uplifting blog, and good luck to you as you continue on your journey.
