Where are you on the life scale of happiness?

Friday, December 24, 2010

I read an interesting article in the Economist that people's happiness follows a U shaped pattern. Happiness is the highest in the 20's and in your elderly years and at its lowest in your mid to late 40's or even low 50's. Happiness goes back up the older you get.

I wondered if that explains how I feel at times lately. I'm 51 and struggle between do I think about retirement or do I try for a promotion or just be content with where I am on the job.

In terms of health - do I just gracefully accept aging and weight gain and stiff joints or do I aggressively push back and work on my health as a priority? Afterall, Jane Fonda looked great on Oprah yesterday!

And then of course I'm the late in life mom -- 51 with a recently turned 8 year old daughter.

I have a wonderful family, a job and pretty good health -- that's so much to be thankful for!!! So on my scale of happiness I am a 10.

I hope all of you who are reading this will have a Blessed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

And if you're getting older -- the good news is we are getting happier! And we can get healthier.
