Hubby might not make it for Christmas-Long

Thursday, December 23, 2010

My husband is an over the road truck driver right now. He had worked for a company for almost seven years, worked his way up to being a local driver and was at the top of his pay grade. Then, out of nowhere, he lost his job because they said there was a report that he had said a bad word. Can you believe it? So, off and on employed since July, he now works for a new company, but of course, he's an over the road driver once again. He's in Las Vegas right now, waiting for his mandatory wait time to be over, then he's off. He picks up a load in Utah, then heading to Portland, Oregon. He is then going to dead-head it up here to Tacoma, WA.

He thinks he might make it at 3 or 4 in the morning, Christmas morning. Talk about a gift from Santa. It all depends on the weather, the passes over the mountains, if the shipper has the load ready on time, and of course, on holiday traffic. The good note is since he picks up in the middle of the night tonight, he'll have to mainly drive at night, which is good for traffic, but not necessarily good for the mountain passes. I can't tell you how many times my poor husband has seen reckless drivers cut him off. They don't realize he needs a good 50 yards to be able to stop. Every time someone sneaks in front of him, he has to back off his speed. It puts that driver (and possibly family and friends) in danger, as well as endangers his job if he rear ends someone. People just don't understand, and personally, I think questions on how to drive around tractor trailers should be on the drivers license tests.

So, here I am, not only worrying about my husband making it home on time for Christmas, but also if he'll be safe out there. In the meantime, I have lots to do to keep me busy. The online portion of my school quarter starts next Monday, then a week from Monday, the actual classes start. Not to mention, cleaning, cooking, shopping, wrapping.......for Christmas. Our family Christmas is the day after Christmas, simply because it's the only day, other than Christmas day, that my husband will be in town. He (hopefully) comes in early Christmas Day, then leaves out Monday morning. So, lots to do. Speaking of things to do........I better go!

One of my goals was to write in a journal everyday. Mark that one off for today! Woo Hoo!
