Christmas Cookies

Monday, December 20, 2010

Last year I was diligent and I rarely ate anything with white flour or sugar in it. This year I have eaten way too many Christmas cookies. Today that ends. I am swearing off the cookies until next year. I notice when I don't eat sugar, I don't crave it either. I know people are well intentioned giving me chocolate and cookies at Christmas time, but it's like giving an ex addict cocaine or a recovered alcoholic a bottle of wine. I gave out boxes of tea to coworkers this year.... it will go nice with their darn cookies.

Ugh, I had the same realization a few days ago. I wasn't eating any sugar at all and I wasn't missing it. Then... Christmas goodies started rolling around. Now, I'm craving chocolate again. But, I took the first step by taking every sweet thing in our house to work the Monday after Christmas. ;) But, you're right - the less I eat, the less I crave.

It's the same for me! When I don't eat sugar, I don't crave it either. They say that the parts of the brain that respond to sugar are the same ones that are active during addictive behaviors, so there's a lot of truth to your words. Tea is a lovely gift, btw. Hang in there, Jeannie.

Tea!! That's a lovely gift! :D OH MY GOSH, I got some tea that tastes like vanilla shortbread cookies.. And another that is sweet apple and something. It's almost better than cookies themselves.

Anyhow, you know what is right for you and your body, Jeannie!
Best of luck.

Cookies are my downfall, but you're completely right, the less I eat sugar the less I crave it. Maybe your chocolates (if you get them again this year) can be regifted to someone who does all right with sugar! Good luck to you!
