Dec. 16 - Under the Covers

emoticon"The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful . . ." And so the popular song goes. We've been having a difficult time keeping our heat pumps working. My father & I were commenting on how nice it would be to have a wood stove!

Being cold seems to bring my desire to exercise to a screeching halt! I'd rather sit under a warm blanket. I suspect I'm not the only on.

emoticonWhen I was a kid, the cold didn't stop me. We lived in Wisconsin then, across the street from a small park. The park employees would turn the baseball diamond into a skating rink. I spent every moment I could on that rink or in the little warming house thawing out so I could return to skating.

Since I live in Georgia now, ice skating isn't readily available. I think there's a indoor ice ring in Greenville, SC, but that's over an hour away from us. I did see a little ice forming on the lake last night, a rare sight.

It's going to take a bit of imagination & perseverance to get me out from under the covers and back to exercising!

We had gusty rain here yesterday. My wool coat, touque gloves and scarf kept me warm. In fact a little too warm about 20 minutes into my walk, I was sweating a little. We're suppose to go down to minus 6 today - so I might add some long johns to the ensemble.

Getting started is so much harder when its cold. emoticon

I hear you loud and clear. If it's overcast, too, the cold seems even worse. Hope your heat pumps can start doing their job soon. Sometimes, cuddling under the warmth of a blanket is better than exercise ~ but, you're right, can't do it forever.

I lived in Wisconsin for about 20 years and thought Tennessee would be warm ~ NOT THIS WEEK. The newscasters have shown Georgia and Florida as bitterly cold, too. Hope winter won't be this way when it comes.

The cold is bothering me more this year than it ever has before.
I DID spend today wrapped in a blanket and sleeping on the couch (it was 20 degrees outside).

I am with you about the cold bringing exercise to a screeching hault, but I am trying to overcome that this week. Last night I did jogging on our Wii. Tonight we actually went for a 2 mile walk after work and after bundling up it actually wasn't that bad. I hope that you figure out a way to exercise in the cold! emoticon emoticon
