No More Exercise For Me!

On Monday, I was power walking with Odie (Beagle/Basset) as usual when my little hound dog caught a scent of something and crossed in front of me. I tripped over him and landed HARD on the pavement. I went home and iced both knees and my right hand all day. Tuesday I woke in a lot of pain and decided that since I am no spring chicken anymore, that maybe I should get checked out. Well...
I broke my right hand. I also broke my right knee. They believe that I have also torn the ligament in my right knee and the cartilege (sp?) in my left knee. I am bound with a wrist brace on my right hand, a full leg brace on my right leg and a nice shiny pair of crutches. Isn't that fun with a broken hand?!?
Luckily, I am not in a lot of pain. Thank the Good Lord for that! I also have a number of friends and family members that are ever so willing to help me out. The doctors are releasing me to return to work on Monday but of course someone else will have to drive me. I go for an MRI of both knees on Tuesday and then they will determine what comes next.
I am being very careful about how many calories I am taking in. But I am disheartened that I am unable to do any exercise. I just don't know if I can lose weight without it. My biggest hope is that I can at least maintain until I can get back to an active lifestyle.

    Oh NO!

That's a terrible thing to have happen. Thank goodness you are not in a lot of pain - it seems like with the injuries you have that you would be!

I think I read someplace that when your body is healing your BMR actually bumps up a bit - burning more calories while making the repairs. So, you might not be as bad off trying to maintain as you might think.

Hang in there - I've had several broken bones (though usually only one at the time!) and know how hard it is to not be able to do the things you want to do... after this initial couple of weeks - it will get better.
