Travelling makes me lose weight - I wish I could do it always!

Whenever I travel, I don't like to use time or money eating, and I generally travel by foot, bike, or public transit. This adds up to eating less (I don't eat on the bus, but do in my car) and exercising more. I lost probably 40 pounds without trying at all when I was living in Argentina for a year, mostly because of these changes.
I really think I would benefit from living in a city and working within walking or biking distance...but I love the space and freedom of living in the country! At the moment I live in a suburb...with only a couple bars in walking distance. Both of my jobs are a half-hour drive away...
But even without the easy infrastructure of city life, I can make the mental adjustments that come naturally on vacation.

    I find I'm quite the opposite, I eat more because I'm on a regular schedule when on vacation.

I just read this article in the local paper about how this guy rides his bike to work, an hour each way. I was blown by that. Maybe you could come up with a halfway point for commuting. So say, drive your car half the distance, park it and then ride your bike the rest of the way. Just a suggestion, or maybe making the bike trek to work once a week and then as you build up, maybe twice a week.

My job doesn't allow me to ride a bike to work. I deliver newspapers, and 500+ papers do not fit on a bike :) I can't wait till I get a "normal" job so I can start biking to work or at least to the train station :)

Good luck with finding a solution. I do have to say country living is so much fun and relaxing :)
