Bye, Bye Fat Clothes

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

I went through my wardrobe today, and found the last remnants of my size eighteen to twenty-four 'fat' clothes. I held one pair of the pants up against my hips.

My daughter said, "Wow, Mom. I can't believe you used to fit into those!"

I smiled and said, "Me neither," and tossed them onto the pile for Goodwill.

I also can't believe I didn't throw them away before now. I am determined to discard any clothes I shrink out of from now on. Right now, I only own size fourteens and down. Once the fourteens become too big, out the door they will go.

When I weighed in at 240 plus pounds, I "lived" in sweat pants. It was the ultimate denial because those things will stretch to fit around just about anything. Never again.

I've been reading a lot about goal weight maintenance and one of the recurring comments from folks who've kept their weight off, is "I let my clothes guide me. If they start fitting too snugly, it's time to kick back into gear and exercise more/eat less."

Works for me!

I am afraid to get rid of my fat clothes. It's like tempting fate. "HERE, I've thrown out or given away all these BIG clothes, now I know I'll regain the weight." NOOOOOO! Please NOOOOOOO! So for now they're all in my spare closet, and when I'm ready and feel more confident, out they will go. I don't want to jinx myself just yet though.

Congrats! I have been weeding out my closet as well. Still keeping my bigger jeans to wear around the house, but the shirts go because they look sloppy!

I love my sweat pants and jeans! I went through my closet and gave away all of my clothes that were too small from when I was in highschool. We're talking size 0-4 shirts and size 2-4 pants. Once I was out of highschool I was a size 6 for the majority of my adulthood. I'm now a size 6 up top and a size 8 on the bottom and I look good! There is just no point of keeping all those old clothes that I will never wear again. I gave them to Salvation Army and it felt amazing. I also donated shoes, belts, and purses and I no longer use. I have a huge wardrobe right now and I was overdue to clear some of it out.
