Can Diet Soda Make You Feel Sick?

Monday, November 22, 2010

emoticon emoticon emoticon NO DIET SODA, EVER, AGAIN. Today I drank a 20 ounce diet soda with my lunch, and it made me feel sick--I found some saltine crackers in my desk and ate some to try to settle my stomach. I have been drinking mostly water and iced tea lately so I guess my body is not used to the artificial sweeteners, etc. It did not sit well. Yuck. So have you ever felt sick from drinking diet soda? Do you have an alternative when you want an interesting beverage to give your taste buds something different?

It makes me ill gives me gut ache. I'm used to cola cola, dr pepper and energy drinks (with sugar) but all of a sudden mum buys sugar free stuff and starts my pain in the guts off. I'm a healthy human being who exercises regularly

I used to be a diet soda fiend, now I find it doesn't sit well either. When I want something "interesting" I go for ginger tea or red zinger or something with interesting flavors like that. I like the fizz sometimes, so a little seltzer cut with cranberry juice or V8 Fusion is nice.

That is not an uncommon side effect of artificial sweeteners. I get really ill from nutrasweet, no matter what it is in. Have you tried Hansen's natural soda with Splenda? If you are sensitive to the typical sweetener in diet soda you might tolerate this a little better. I definitely do.

I like Crystal light lemonade, It is sweetened with Splenda (sucralose). I use Splenda packets in my morning coffee. I try to avoid anything sweetened with Equal (aspartame) which is in most diet sodas. I also avoid real sugar as much as possible. emoticon emoticon

I have never liked the taste of sugar-free sodas. Drinking them on an empty stomach made me positively ill as well. The carbonation can make you feel bloated on top of all that! Don't get me wrong, I have consumed far more than my fair share of soda over the years. If I ever need a flavored drink, I will probably opt for a 50-50 mix of carbonated, sodium-free water and pure fruit juices. Good luck on your taste quest!

There is so much acid in diet soda that I can see how it could make you feel sick. Since you don't usually drink them, it would make it worse for you. I drink the carbonated flavored water from Walmart when I won't something different.

I ate some light yogurt with artificial sweetener on Saturday and it made me feel kind of sick....or maybe it was the waffle with artificially sweetened syrup!
