I woke up this morning with a very sore joint. The muscles around this joint are extremely sensitive, too.

It is affecting almost everything I do today. Not making certain movements impossible, but painful.

What has caused this! I exercise this joint approximately 40 minutes every day. I don't remember to stretch afterwards.

I will try icing and, if that doesn't help, I will use heat.

I'm not sure how to prevent this happening again as I will need to continue the exercise in the future.

I'm sure I will be unable to do ANY type of house work for at least a week.

Did I forget to tell you which joint is affected?

It's my left thumb! It's from turning the pages on my Nook while I use my stepmaster machine or exercycle! I will be taking a four hour plane flight Wednesday and will be using the Nook. I will need to remember to switch hands.

As a side note, I once worked for a doctor who would tell women who had pain in their hands to soak them in hot water 3 times a day after meals. I told him he should tell men the same thing, but he wouldn't!

Keep your fingers and toesies warm, Sparkies! Hugs!

emoticon Ouch!

Good luck with the thumb. You don't realize how much you use it until it is incapacitated. I get trigger thumb every few years or so and have gotten a cortisone shot to solve it. emoticon I didn't check this out yesterday. I hope it is alreadt improving.

I'm behind the times...is a Nook like a Kindle? How do you use your thumb with a Nook? emoticon Take care.
Haha on your Doctor's advice...soak in the dishwasher? emoticon

I can relate as I have arthritis in my thumb joint and at times it just hurts so badly I could cry. I am so sorry it is bothering you so much but I can relate to it affecting your function as I have an iPad which has a kindle on it! Love It! it is amazing how much we use our thumb and don't think about it until it hurts and then we realize it! Feel better soon!

Uh yeah, you better take 2 weeks off from housework. You dont want to strain it! LOL. Ice is probabably good and yes switching thumbs is probabably a good idea. Also take ibuprofen for the swelling. You will be hitchhiking again in no time!

Ouch! I'm sorry about this nasty pain situation, Carol - and in something we use as often as a thumb! Sounds like a repetitive strain injury, and who knew this could happen from using an electronic reader? Smooth healing...and remember to switch hands while reading during your flight this week! - Sandi
