Buhl, my golden retriever foster dog, is all puppy. Even though he's 18 months old. No focus at all. bouncy bouncy bouncy...he should have been called tigger. too funny. When we're walking he does good focusing on his job, which is to walk next to me and pay attention, UNTIL............SQUIRREL!!!!!
! Ok, get his focus back and then.....LEAF!!!!!!! Such a knucklehead. It's been 5 days and Atlas still wants to kill him. My hubby keeps yelling at Atlas because he's afraid he is going to hurt him. OK. I know what I'm doing. I'm confident enough in my dog skills and I'm confident enough in Atlas that he'll listen to me. My husband is the "fun" person in the house. The dogs have NEVER listened to him. He's a bit delusional that he's in charge. HA HA HA HA HA HA sorry, water flew out of my nose. anyway, today I actually walked Buhl and Atlas together. Yes, Atlas still wanted to kill Buhl. NO, Buhl didn't acknowledge Atlas at all. And yes, after about 5 minutes Atlas just walked without glaring at Buhl. I am sure that this is a step towards tolerance on Atlas' side. Do I think they will ever be friends and run and romp together??? No. I think the only way Atlas will be ok with Buhl in the house is if I let them just go at it and get it over with. But I won't let that happen. Atlas is a 120 lb German shepherd and Buhl is a 55 lb retriever. Not even a semi fair contest. It's still early and hopefully I'm wrong. Right now my routine is first thing in AM take my two dogs out to potty. Then Buhl goes out. They all get fed then my two go out to chase their toys ( tennis ball and kong respectively). Then they come back in and Buhl gets to go out and chase his tennis ball. Then I walk Atlas 4 miles. Then I get Buhl , and both Atlas and Buhl walk for 4 miles. Then in afternoon my two dogs go out and run again, then Buhl. Then we repeat that same routine in the evening. I am EXHAUSTED by time bedtime comes around. No one needs to rock me to sleep. In between I have lizards, snakes, turtles and a duck that need caring for. (not to mention housework and dinner) On the upside of all this I have lost another 2 lbs in 3 days !!!!! Fostering is a HUGE responsibility that I take seriously. Will I do it agian? Eh, give me another week or two to give you an honest answer. I'd like to think I would in a heart beat. One thing is for sure, I am getting a work out and I feel great.
