OK, so I slowly inched away from sparkpeople, and now I'm inching back in. I gained a lot of weight back, but have been consistent with my workouts, doing an hour a day with one rest day a week. But I wasn't able to stop gaining weight.
I joined a gym a couple weeks ago with the intention of just mixing up my routines now that the winter weather is on it's way and I won't be jogging outside anymore. But the gym membership came with a free session with a personal trainer. I decided to splurge and buy two more sessions making a total of three. Maybe the $$$$ spent would motivate me to handle my eating issues.
She was so awesome! She spent extra time with me since she didn't have another appointment, and even though she's a trainer and not a nutritionist, she had some great insight into my problem. After talking with me about my food issues she suggested that I'm probably addicted to sugar and that my two-days-on then rest-of-the-week-off diets were from me going cold turkey on the sugar.
- the vegan versions are just as high in calories!
All week I've been eating a little less sugar and I've been eating it earlier in the day from either a natural source, like fruit, or something that at least has some other health benefit - like a sweet protein shake.
Ever since that session, I haven't binged! I've felt better, I'm not hungry (eating about 1800 cals a day this week) and I'm having a blast trying new things! I've done spinning, powerflex classes, elliptical, interval training, it's awesome!
The best thing is that as a trainer, she's got great ideas but is working for my needs. I don't need weekly sessions the rest of my life, I just need a couple at this time in my life to help me stay motivated and get back on track and that's what she is doing. I have two more sessions, one in a couple weeks and then another one I'm hoping right before Christmas at which point I should be in the right direction again.
Oof - long post. That's what happens if I go more than a month without blogging.
