I had one of my long time friends over today with her two children. We been friends for over 11 years. We met at a camp we both worked at. We became instantly good friends. We always keep in touch in when I moved upstate NY 9 years ago. Who would have thought she and hubby would follow us and move here upstate too about 4&half-5 years ago. Of course, I friendship grew even more, being able to see each other all the time. Our children get along so well too. It makes me so very happy that they are friends just like their moms.
Well to the point...it was so lovely just to have a friend over to enjoy having pleasant conversations, discussions and not be about the food. Now, that I am dare I say it, "middle age" it is always about where should we have lunch? Dinner? Or "Want to meet for coffee and dessert? Drinks and appetizers? (Hello, that how I because overweight!)
I read an article about hiking through SP. I e-mail my husband and ask him out on a hiking date. No response but I know he has not read his e-mail as of yet.
So, I was telling my friend (the one I had over today) this and started reminiscing about the days I use to hike with one of my best friends of over 25 years and how much fun it was. She was so excited about it that she ask if she could join me and start hiking with me. Ah? Yea!!! Why I never thought of this was beyond me. She is one of my most active friends. She was the tennis instructor at the camp...I was the computer teacher.
In fact she was reminiscing about the marathon today here in NY(Staten Island to Central Park). And how 2o years ago she was in it and did it in 4hours and 28 minutes which she found funny because today the winner did it in 2 hours and 28 minutes! Her niece was in it today and did it in 4 hours and 34 minutes. (So, my buddy still holds the title in her family.)
Point being I can't believe I waited almost five years to think (actually she thought of it) "How about you and I do more fun, active & sporty stuff."
I did use to go kayaking with one of my close neighbor for a while but then last July 2009 I tore my bicep and rotator cuff. And that ended that. The neighbor (we are still friend though) found a new partner and since it was her equipment I am out! Oh, well such is life.
Well, since I started SP in May, (this is when I got the Okay from my doctor to start slowly exercising again) I really always wanted to eventually add the exercises that don't feel like their exercises. You know like karate, kickboxing, Zumba, kayaking and (yea) hiking. I am not giving up on using the treadmill and the elliptical I just want some spice in my life. I am going to start thinking about hiking again for sure especially now that my buddy is also interested. I may even look into karate. And I am patiently waiting for my husbands answer to the hike date.
