Log cabin Bible cover: photos Saturday project

Sunday, November 07, 2010

so you can see what I did Saturday.

I went up in my studio and ransacked my cupboards looking through fabric for Christmas gifts.

This is the bible cover I started making a few weeks ago. I figured before I could start a new project, I needed to complete this one. (1 p.m. or so)

Just about done!

Checking to make sure it will fit around before the finishing edges and sleeve.

Finished product! (9:30 tonight) (I took a break every half hour or so)

Inside cover sleeve. The back of the log cabin was made of my son's discarded jeans. The jeans scraps from when I made the guitar case for him. There is no batting used for this project.

The outside opened up to see the whole back.

This is about the 3rd Bible cover I have made using log cabin technique. I like that I can make it to fit the size of the bible. I chose fabric from various times - from a friend in Africa, from clothes I made when I was pregnant and my boys were young, and fabric I just liked.

I made a loop that fastens from the back to the front on the side as a button loop to keep the Bible closed for transport. I was going to put loops in to hold pens, but it was not good for the book. I will just carry my pens in my purse.

In the midst of all that, my son nearly finished cleaning his room, then went to a sweet 16 party for a young lady we know, and my son actually put on a dress shirt and a tie!

Thats awesome! Very nice work. I love that you are so crafty! If I had a room all to myself, unfortunately I dont emoticon lol I would love to make it a craft room! I like trying new crafts it just I dont always have the money... and I dont have any room for a whole bunch of craft stuff! Slowly but surely the little corner next to my bed is starting to get a little packed with the little bit of craft stuff I do have lol!

Hi Luna I just stopped by to catch up with you and after seeing the leaves I skipped to this blog. That is so beautiful and meaningful. I love to use memory pieces for patchwork rather han making it to the color wheels. I have fabric from skirts my Mother made me and my older cousins I never use the patched pieces for anything other than viewing, I spread it out and it has more memories of my mother in it than the photos i took of her . I can touch the pieces and remember trying the finished garment on for her to see, too poor for cameras way back then but the pictures are etched in my mind Pat in maine.

Thank you for showing the inside of the Bible cover too. My Mother made a cross stitch Bible cover for me but didn't finish it so I need to put it together so it can actually be used. I like the idea that there is a memory for each of the fabrics that you used.

Very nice Bible Cover. I use to sew a lot but life got in the way, and I don't have a place where I can spread out and leave it! Maybe when we get another empty room, I can convert it to a sewing room . . . not in any hurry for the empty room though, Once "the birds fly from the nest", they are usually gone!

Nice. I love the work room you have. I just turned a Christmas stocking I was making that got too big into a baby blanket for a friend that is due in the spring. Love crafts and crafty people. Your page is petty to.

About you boy, maybe she is a "keeper". Hope all works out for him.
