an idea for Thanksgiving...

Thursday, November 04, 2010

i'm trying to eat 6 -300 calorie meals a day. i know turkey day is around the corner and i've yet to figure out a game plan for not turning into a butterball with my family for the holidays.

so for lunch today i tossed a couple ounces of pork on the good ole george foreman along with some sweet potato slices. i put that into my nutrition planner and noticed i needed another 100+ calories to add to that. (i didn't plan ahead today) so i opened the fridge and didn't see anything i was terribly interested in. i settled on making a salad.

as i sliced the romaine the beep went off on the grill. i got my pork off and thought the sweet potatoes could use a couple more minutes. i added some craisins to my romaine and thought, this is a sucky salad so far.

i sliced up the pork into bite sized pieces and tossed them onto my salad. then, BEEP, my sweet potatoes were done. i cut them up into bite sized yumminess and tossed them into my salad as well. i added some of my fav sesame asian dressing, put the lid on my tupperware bowl and shook shook shook while i put stuff back in the fridge.

i smiled as i got a teenie tiny work out with my left arm vigorously shaking my salad.

then it dawned on me as i was chompin' on my salad! this is LIKE thanksgiving dinner! i don't need a huge plate full of everything being served. exchange the pork for a couple ounces of turkey, grill up some sweet potato, craisins, maybe a smidge of stuffing tossed in.... i have all the thanksgiving elements in a bowl with lettuce!!! (i don't care for mashed potatoes and gravy anyway. i tend to eat it cause it's there. what a waste!)

i'm sure i'll get funny looks but i'll just look back at their bellies and their need to unbutton their thanksgiving pants as they snore away on the couch!

***side note***

i'm so dang excited a bout the 2 mile walk we are going to do as a new family (my hubby, our exchange student and i) tradition! i hope my step daughters will join us someday. we get to help feed the hungry and get a nice walk in. next year i hope to run the 5K. this year i will settle for the 2 mile walk. still a good cause and good exercise. YEAH for a new healthy life! Race Against Hunger 2010 Visalia, Ca. Thanksgiving Morning! come out and join in! you'll be home by 10am!!!
