Virtual community and "real" community

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

I had done very little connection on line with people other than those I knew outside the virtual world. Then I retired, found Spark and found a whole new sort of friend and community. Here are people that I can share things with I might not share with non-virtual friends. Here is a community where I can share my experiences in dealing with depression, weight loss, gain of self-esteem in ways that might help other people. Here I can seek advice from my virtual friends, especially those on DWD team and Yoga Lovers team and know they will understand my griefs, my joys, my challenges and my blessings.

Yes, isn't this a wonderful site! Many friendships are made daily on SparkPeople. THANK YOU for being my friend. This may seem strange, but I really don't think about my closest freinds on here as being 'virtual.' They are just 'MY FRIENDS.' I feel very blessed to have so many good friends.

Agreed! SP has a level of sharing that I have not found too many other places. Thanks for being a part of my life.

I agree! I've been active on Facebook with "real life" friends for a while, but SP is different -- it's where I can be real and share on an entirely different level. It's a safe, positive, and supportive space. What a wonderful community it fosters!
