I Am More Than My Weight

Sunday, October 31, 2010

It took a spark friend to point this out to me.

Lately my recent weight gain has been all I can think about and has become the full sum of who I am. After she pointed out to me that I am more than my weight, I realized that it is kind of silly and pretty sad that I have let it come to this. I have negated the fact that I am a caring friend, a loving auntie, my kitty's mommy, a good neighbour, a daughter, a sister, a member of a church and a contributing and supportive member of several groups.

Yes, my weight and health are important, but I must not make it my only focus in life or it won't be much of a life.

I completely understand! I lost 130, gained 30 pounds, and have been fluctuating around that range since last year.

It doesn't define who you are, or what you're doing today! I try to just strive, every day, to be the best I can be!

That's so interesting, I've been using the mantra "I am not my body" lately. Cool to see the sentiment reflected back for me to see!

You are absolutely right you are much more and your accomplishment, you have lost more than you have regained! I'm a weight loss virgin and I decided I won't let the journey to a healthier lifestyle stop me from seeing the beauty of life around me. You are and inspiration to many other than just me. Please continue being the great you that you have become. emoticon

I am still not sure how to get past that way of thinking. I have tried simply not looking at the scale, but that hasn't worked for me either. You are doing GREAT!

I hear you girl. My Husband just pointed this out to me last week, that I tend to base my whole life on what my weight is. If I'm thin, life is good. And if I'm not thin, I hide away, and avoid life...til I'm thin again. And I realize just how foolish, and what a giant waste of time and emotion that is.

Loved this blog- thanks for the reminder that I need to stop being so hard on myself-and enjoy life, and not let the number on the scale dictate that.

Julie:) emoticon

It is so very easy and very dangerous to get caught up in the numbers.

I'm right there with you, girl!! I have been really bummed about my weight lately (and, all my back issues keeping me from the gym). But, when I realized all I have accomplised at work during all that "struggle"...I see some pretty amazing things have happened--in my clients and IN ME!! You are right--we are more than a number on a scale!!!!

Let's not fall to far into that realm of thought again, huh?? I will try if you will emoticon emoticon
Hang in there--tomorrow is another day!!!

I can relate some. Whereas, mine wasn't a gain the past two weeks - I was doing really great and still not losing anything. But I weighed everyday and focused TOO much on the scale. This week (since my weigh in Thursday) I have only checked my weight one true time yesturday, and to my suprise I had already lost 2lbs. I think it's the fact of focusing on it too much that makes us get caught up in it.
