What helps my joint pain?

For years of working in an office; everyday I would sit with my foot under my other leg. Over years, this placed a strain on my right knee. I just kept on keeping-on. I continued to do my Kathy Smith Step Aerobics because it made me feel good and of course, posting to SparkPeople! Then back at work the next day with my right knee bent placing my right foot under my left leg. Next day, the same...Kathy Smith Step Aerobics...bent knee to make myself 'comfy' while sitting at a desk. Once I finally left the desk job, thank Goodness, my knee continued to hurt. I would see the doc & was told from X-Rays that there was no apparent damage but doc would prescribe ibuprofen for me, which was not helpful, at all. I know there is some damage there, because I feel it everyday. I was told to stop the Step Aerobics, no excessive walking, no Elliptical...only the Gazelle with no incline...boring!!!! I had to stop this stuff because it was adding stress to my knee. But you gotta do, what you gotta do, right? Gazelle has been a bit boring compared to the other cardio workouts that I love to do but I have learned to deal w/ it and I do gradually add a tad bit of incline.
