Misconception about obesity being acceptable in society.

I was reading one of my spark friend's blog entries about an article that was posted on the Marie Claire website and it got me to thinking. So many people now-a-days think that since obesity is prevalent and in the media that it has become acceptable. They also claim that obesity is causing their health care costs to go up. I am here to say that that is a great misconception.
Let me start with the rising health care costs. These fees are going up, yes, but not because people are overweight. They are on the rise because of malpractice insurance that bad doctors have to pay for and because of just plain greedy people. Weight has little to do with it. Personally I can't even get regular health insurance because they declared my weight a pre-existing "illness", I had to get the Federal Inclusive Insurance. Funny thing is, the federal insurance wouldn't accept me because of weight, I had to have a special letter from an insurance company stating that I was uninsurable. (Ahhh, I hate hate hate health insurance companies).
Obesity becoming acceptable in society? Let me tell you a little story. Last spring I had gone to the beach to visit my in-laws. During that trip we decided to go to an RV Park on the North Carolina Inlet and fish (I was in my regular clothes, not a bathing suit). I had decided that I was getting a little too much sun and was walking back to the house by myself when I stepped in a hole and fell to the ground. I had to sit there for a second because it was a pretty hard fall, I was hurting, and I still had a long walk ahead of me. When I looked up there was an entire family, kids and all sitting on their front porch starring at me. They did not say a single word to me; didn't ask me if I was okay, didn't try and help, NOTHING, just sat there and starred.
When I told the story to my mother-in-law she said, "You know, I hate people sometimes. If you had been a size 2, busty blonde they would have come running." I have to agree.
If you want to see the article that started all this, take a look. I bet you will be appalled, just as I was.
