When I get grumpy about the scale, I'm going to come back to this picture. Look at the difference in volume between 5 pounds of muscle and 5 pounds of fat. Isn't it amazing?
So even if the scale isn't moving, or has, as in this week, moved UP a few pounds, I'm going to remind myself if I'm exercising consistently and working to increase intensity, I'm building muscle. Muscle is denser than fat and takes up less space. Muscle also has weight to it - if I'm building it, in a sense I am adding weight to my body. Muscle requires more calories to sustain - whether you're working or resting it. So I want muscles!!!
Even if the scale stays the same or goes up a bit, trading muscle for fat will make me smaller.
