I hate cleaning cupboards. I can't believe the things that i stuff in there to save. I spent all morning convincing myself that the wonderful work i was doing on Spark People was a good reason to put off the cupboard cleaning... then I remembered what I preach - small steps and small goals. I have 12 sets of cupboards in my kitchen. Yes I know I am luck to have all that storage space (that doesn't include the 12 drawers.), yet.... all that space and my "just in case I need it" mentality is not a good combination.
So rather than thinking I needed to do all the cupboards in one day, I choose two. I also included DH in the process. It turns out we were ready to get rid of different items, but usually didn't object to giving or throwing away the items the other chose. I also thought about how we use the items as opposed to an "artistic" (read extremely organized) arrangement of the items. DH was very pleased with the final result and we still have time for lunch, a bike ride and to get to a late afternoon lecture at the local university. Have I mentioned that I love retirement?
