A confession.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

I promised a real update. I did not deliver. I am a lying liar that lies. I tell blatant falsehoods and untruths.

That said, REAL UPDATE TIME! Huzzah!

I've restarted Couch to 5K, focusing on distance this time. This first week, my jogging pace was 6-6.1 mph and walking was 3.8-4.0 mph. I'm going to try and keep the 6 mph pace for as long as I need to, but I'm going to repeat weeks as necessary to re-condition myself. I am so out of shape (curse you, grad school!).

My diet and exercise have, once again, fallen by the wayside in lieu of grad school, work, school work, and helping take care of others. I know that I need to start taking a little bit of time for myself, and I'm working on it. The remainder of this week I'm focusing on external things, and next week I'm going to start focusing more on the exercise and diet.

I'm planning on trying to go vegetarian (lacto-ovo pesco), specifically try and cut out chicken/red meat. I'm also going to try and wean myself off of sugar (because holy sweet-tooth, Batman!), and that includes actively trying NOT to buy sweets. No more junk food drawer at work, no more Powerberries from Trader Joes, no more pop (my Diet Sunkist addiction is rearing its ugly head again). Now that it's in writing, I have to do it. So there.

Grad school is going OK. No idea how I did on my Law and Order assignment (and I still hate the theme song something fierce! But 10+ episodes at once will do that to a girl), or how I did in the class overall, but the professional/research writing course seems to be going well. I have to have 3 potential research topics having to do with the judicial system for class on Saturday. Then, these will be narrowed to one topic on which I'll have to do a 10-12 page paper.

I'm thinking maybe "influence of memory in the judicial system" or "inequality in the judicial system." But I don't know for sure. Any suggestions?

I really like your Blog, especially in your first sentence, "I am a lying liar that lies". Now that is funny. Besides that, congratulations on getting back to C25K program. I have been on the program for more weeks than I care to think about, but it is always on my mind. A few injuries have slowed and even stopped my progress at times. I ran my 1st 5K last August. I plan to run 3 or 4 in 2011. I found I work harder at training when there is a reason to train. Once I signed up for a race I was on schedule and worked hard. Running to lose weight is a grand reason but I needed more to keep me going. The thought of running a 5K and coming in last really bugged me to no end.
By the way I like most programs that deal in the law. When in college I took a course Law-101 and it was my favorite. I would like to have pursued it but I was seeking a business degree and the course helped push me towards that goal.
Good luck to you in Grad School and your C25K.
Now you are not a "lying liar that lies". Nice Blog

The judical system is a pretty big topic in itself. Is there something in particular about the judicail system that you have been learning about?

"Inequality" sounds too broad. You'd have to pick one specific area where there is inequality (race, gender, religion?) -- and are you talking about the people who are judges, etc. or people who go through the courts as parties in lawsuits?

What about TV representations of the judicial system and how they distort or accurately portray the way things really work?
