On Saturday I walked my second 1/2 marathon ever. I walked with one of my best and oldest girlfriends, Heidi. We met when we were 5 years old and even though life has taken us in different directions throughout the years, we manage to see each other often. Our children are grown so last year we decided it'd be fun to give this a try. We met in Columbus and gave it our best. When we finished last year, we could barely walk. In fact, we had to be picked up at a corner rather than walk to the car.
This year was totally different. We both trained all summer. We were able to keep a 14 minute mile pace for the entire race and we finished strong. And we walked out this year! We have already set the goal for next year, under 3 hours.
We have had so much fun with this. We bought "matching" outfits this year--for 57 year old grammas--I think we looked pretty cool. Our daughters gave us thumbs up for the "look." lol
Anyways, aiming for something like this gives you a goal to work for and get your fitness in each day. Friends make the walking easier. And I have found walking a 1/2 marathon brings out the best in people--it is a ton of fun. Give it a try!
