A note about progress and commentment

I am very pleased with my progress here on sparkpeople. First the weight loss (43.8 lbs to date) out of the 45 lbs I pledged as my original goal. It has taken me a long time, nearly three years so far, but I am getting very close! I only have internet for 6 or 7 months of each year and it was not dependable the first couple of years (dial up), so I have had to do it on my own much of the time. This I think has helped me in some ways, because I have had to learn fast, by reading articles and faithfully tracking nutrition whenever I did have access. I know I wouldn't be where I am without this site. It has helped me so much to learn all about nutrition and what I need to eat to create a healthy weight and lifestyle. I don't plan to stop losing when I reach my goal, but to set a new goal. And with what I have learned here, I will talk with my doctor and see if it is time to eliminate or decrease some medications now that I am eating so healthy and maintaining a much better but not perfect weight yet. My diet is a low fat, low sodium nearly sugar free diet. composed of small amounts of all kinds of meat, all vegetables and all fruits and berries, whole grains etc. with very few processed foods. I try when possible to eat what is in season locally grown. I drink mostly, water (8 cups a day) 1% milk, coffee. tea with very little diet soft drink. I have developed a diet that is easy to follow, with variety and flavor, that keeps my dh and myself satisfied, not feeling deprived or hungry so I believe we can continue this way of eating long term and be successful in not ever gaining back what we lose. I have to constantly recommit myself to an exercise program, I know how important it is, but because of medical restraints and procrastination, it isn't as easy for me to follow as nutrition. But I will never give up. Right now I am on a streak and doing pretty good with the exercise. That is probably why I am making more progress! emoticon

    Wow...you should be up for the poster-girl for Spark People award! That blog says it all and is so motivating for anyone trying to lose weight. I, too, have a really tough time being faithful to exercise for many physical reasons (but I do the best that I can) and knowing how hard you tried in the beginning and how hard you still try now keeps me on the track that I need to be on. You have been such a great help to me and I certainly commend you on your great achievement, Dotti.
