Personal Training...

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Yesterday I had my first ever personal training session at the gym. Today I ache.

I've just rejoined the gym and was offered a free trial personal training session, I've never done one before, Ive hadd the usual training induction that show you how to use each machine and tells you to do 20 reps at 10 kgs etc but this was different. This was me being pressed every step of the way

It all started with a 15 minute warm up on the cross trainer, so not the easiest of starts, we moved straight to core work reverse curls using an yoga ball, from there straight into a plank ouchie I hate that annoying simple move. But I was made to grit my teeth and hold it for 30 seconds. Then more reverse curls then another plank. Even after this I was rather flushed and hot hot hot.

The main focus of the work out was legs (as I one of my goals is to be fit to ski by December (please snow hurry up !) So we did legs curls, reverse curls, squats and just when I was tired out we did the whole little routine all over again. My instructor counting the reps for me and pushing me to do just one more. Then moved onto those scissor leg thing that I actually quite like, but yep he stopped I had practiced those and pushed the weights up yikes. We didn't just do straight lifts it was a little varied lifts half way up and then the top half of the movement afterwards.

I certainly have never worked out like that on my own and have definitely never pushed myself that hard before. Today I ache, but in a good way and actually not as badly as I expected to. Although I am sticking to today being a rest day. - tomorrow I hit the spinning class again.

NOw I hae to decided if personal training really is worth pretty much $110 an hour ...hmm maybe, maybe not. I think its good to know it exists if I find myself stuck in a rut. Now for that lottery win !
