A funny thing happened....

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

A funny thing happened to me last night, well kind of funny. So I took off on my four mile run last night. Felt really good, confident that I was going to have a great run. The weather was nice and cool, etc. I got a block from my house when it happened. I caused an accident. I paused as I started across the street (on the sidewalk) because I noticed a car wanted to turn but she stopped, rather abruptly I might add. As I went across I was thinking to myself that “man, she is going to get rear ended” yep just as I finished that thought, it happened, nothing big, just a gentle tap. But you would have thought that this older couple’s car was destroyed. They started yelling at the young driver, so I stayed put. They called the police kept yelling at her, meanwhile it brought out all the neighbors. I called hubby to let him know I was delayed a little and he ended up coming around the corner. Now I understand it was totally the other drivers fault for following too closely and not paying attention but there was no damage and to freak out like this couple did was totally un-called for. Of course one of the police officers go “well she did stop in the middle of the street” of course that made me feel totally at fault but then again I’m glad she did stop. I went on with my run thinking as bad as this couple freaked out that they will probably try to sue me since I was running across the neighborhood street on the sidewalk. Crazy!

Then this morning, I’m sitting here at my desk clearly not working on what I’m supposed to when the whole building starts to shake. My first thought was that some teenager ran into the building (our building holds the license/driving testing) but no, guess what? We had an earthquake! Yep, I foresee oceanfront property in our near future. It was a 4.4 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was located about 30 miles southeast of us. Can you believe the emergency management people went on alert? Crazy! I’ll let you know when my property is ready for rent. You should be able to see the ocean from my front porch!

Yes, you had the right of way and it wasn't like you just jumped out of nowhere. She was correct in stopping. Being in the Fire Rescue service for 25 years I've seen a lot. One of my favorites was an old couple that was yelling at the Police Officer (never do that) stating that he has been driving for over 30 years and how basically he owns the road. The nice Police Officer said nicely congratulations on driving for 30 years and now you own these 4 tickets besides being found at fault of the accident. Glad that your alright. Never felt an earthquake yet. Glad everyone is alright on that one also.

Glad to hear you are OK...and that no one was really hurt in the accident. I hear there have been a few earthquakes, that one was just noticable.

WOW! How crazy! I would have freaked if I caused an accident. I am glad that there was no damage or injury! I know what you mean about following to close. I was driving home yesterday and this guy was seriously up my butt on 95. I moved over and the jerk cut infront of me and slammed on the brakes. We went from 80 to 40! I can't stand people like that!

Holly told me about the quake! Insaine! I think she said it ended up being 5.1? I am glad there was no real damage! You can always come to FL and live by the ocean with Holly and me!

I was reading this blog worried that you were going to say that you got an email from that crazy couple. I am glad it was just an earthquake. I miss having earthquakes now that I am on the East coast instead of West.

We've had earthquakes here too! There were two in Illinois this last year that we were able to feel in Iowa. Craziness! Glad everyone was ok in the accident. I hate people that get all angry when a minor car accident like that happens.

I live in Southeast Oklahoma and my daughter felt the quake at her school!

Sorry about the "freak out", but really, she did the right thing by stopping.... And the rear ending driver must have been following too close, or texting or something. Still no reason to behave so poorly.

Have a great day!

Now that my son has his permit, he's really realzing how stupid A LOT of drivers are! Honestly, we should retest ALL drivers every few years. Both written and on the road.

You didn't cause it. But I can understand your "guilt".

As for the earthquake - thats a crazy feeling! And wow, in Oklahoma??? Whats next????

I'm so sorry about the accident. I hope you stood up for that young lady! It's too bad the older couple had to be so nasty!

Sorry to hear about the accident. You didn't cause the accident. . .pedestrian have the right away, correct? It was the old couple's fault for not paying attention to the car in front of them. The young girl did the right thing, by stopping so she didn't hit you (Thank God!!!). Some people have nothing better to do than complain!!!

I once stopped in the middle of the road, because my friend was trying to catch a dog that was running loose. When I stopped I asked her if I could pull over and help her and when bam the car behind me gets rea-ended by the car behind them. I don't feel like I caused that accident, because when you drive you need to pay attention to what is in front of you. . .even if it's a stopped car!

I laughed when you mentioned your house would be up for rent with the ocean view! Love it! Hopefully the earthquake didn't do any major damage!!

Quakes seem to be happening a lot everywhere lately.

Sorry about the accident, but it could of been worse - you could of been hurt.
