Bike Riding

Monday, October 11, 2010

So today I did what I would have laughed about last year. I rode my bike over to my kids school which is 3.3 miles away to pick them up from school. They have told me a couple times that they wish that we could ride bikes home from school. I have told them that it is to far in the past.

After riding my bike with my DH for the last few weeks. I have realized that 3.3 miles is really not all that far, it just looks far. So I woke my DH up early for his midnights shift and asked him to drive his car over to the school with the kids bikes and our 3 year old. I got to the school in 20 minutes (takes me about 15 mins in the car). The ride was very fun to do on my own. Then my girls (6 and 7 year olds) got out of school and I asked if they wanted to ride their bikes home with me. They were so excited and jumped up and down saying 'Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!'. So off we went on our bikes. Myself and DH had planned ahead for him to come get them if they couldn't make it all the way home. But they made it, without any kind of complaints and want to do it again tomorrow!!! It only took us 35 minutes to get home. So they were riding at least 5 miles an hour all the way home. I was so proud of them, and myself for riding our bikes.

It may seem like a little for a lot of people on here. But last year I would have laughed the idea off. I wouldn't have even considered doing something like this, let alone getting the idea all on my own. So today was an awesome day!

Yeah, my girls seem to be most effected by my new healthy habits. They constantly ask me if what they are eating/doing is healthy for them. It is so cute and makes me feel like I'm doing the right thing for them as well as for me. It is something that I don't think I was aware of while I was a child, and I'm glad that they are learning it now.

I think that is totally cool, you are like mom of the year material to your kids right now. I am so proud of you...not just for doing it, but for being able to see the progress you've made from last year to this one. Keep up the great work!

That is awesome! I don't think it is a little thing. My husband bought me a bike three years ago and I rode it once (long story involving a crash and a drama queen). It is great that you are teaching your children healthy habits, having fun, and getting quality time with them. Those memories will be with them the rest of their lives.
