Put it on a lead

Thursday, October 07, 2010

I'm off on one of my walks today when 5 mins in I get attacked by a dog, the bloody thing started barking and snarling from about 12 feet away then it just launched it's self at me, this dog was with it's owner who started apologising and trying to get the dog to come to her, but only after I had told her "would you put it on a lead" she had to coax it to do as she instructed.
Now this is the 2nd time in about 2 weeks that I have dodged an aggressive dog.
If I had thought they would have attended I would have called the police, next time it may be a child or a more nervous person.
I was lucky i pulled my hands upto my chest tucked my arms in and turned my back on, I half expected my butt to get bit but it didn't....

Please please if you are daft enough to keep a dog that is likely to be aggressive PUT IT ON A LEAD....

Once a neighbors dog was threating to attack and I suddenly stood still, stared the dog directly in the eye without fear, and it wimpered away. It was a large german shepard. However, I would not recommend that what I did applies in all cases. I am glad you were not hurt. Pepper spray seems a safer option.I just might have been lucky.

Glad you only had a scare. People should have their dogs on a lease and in most places it is a law. I try to carry pepper spray for such an occasion. I have a neighbor who carries a golf club to protect her dog from other dogs(her dog is on a lease).
When I was 11 or 12 a dog bit me on my bike, knocked me off, tore my dress, and slip. Oh and I had to get a shot which made me sick for days. Can you say traumatized. That was 42 years ago and that makes me as old as dirt. lol

Oh, dear- thank you for explaining how to handle that situation.
I never knew that.
I have always been afraid of a dog attacking me, although it has never happened.

That's scary. Poor you. Glad you weren't injured but it must have been a very unpleasant experience. You had quick reactions to tuck your arms in. That's a useful lesson.

Hope that your future walks are much more pleasant.

Ugh! I'm glad you didn't get hurt. It's awful when something like that happens. Hopefully the owner will be better about keeping her pet on it's leash.

2 times in 2 weeks.. I hope it's the last time it happens.
