In Australia, this is the last term of the school year. (School holidays start beginning of December). My husband is home on long service leave for the whole time. For those of you in countries that don't offer this, long service leave is time off in pay once you have been with a company for a number of years (number varies depending on the company normal was 10, some do 15, now you can take pro rata after 7).
Originally, I was going to take a contract so I could work like I used to before the kids were born (leave home early if it suited me, stay at the end of the day to set up for the next). Basically, I was going to work without feeling like I was racing through my day. He (who think being home with the kids is easy) was going to run the house.
What happened? I got the offer to write another book. This means that I'm at home trying to work (although not on the new book yet, still waiting for the table of contents to be approved). At the moment, I'm checking page proofs for the online resources.
How is the house husband doing? Well, basically, he's driving me crazy. He's decided to start with rearranging the kitchen. THE KITCHEN!!!!!! It's not like there isn't another room in the house that needs attention. I'm thinking the two doors that are currently not attached to the bathroom might be a priority, not to mention the painting outside that needs to be done (much better to wait until summer really hits for that). He's rearranging the kitchen (and doing a lot of huffing and puffing about the necessity for it). Basically, he arranges like my daughter does. It needs to "look neat" but not pay any consideration to the practicallities of a kitchen. (Things that I need all the time are placed behind things that don't get used often. Needless to say, I'm rearranging as I use the kitchen (not everything).
On the plus side, I got to go for a swim today (and normally I wouldn't 'cause my 4 year old is home). I came home from the holidays with bronchitis (and got to go to the doctor at 3:15 on a Monday for the diagnosis 'cause I didn't have to do the school pickup). I'm feeling heaps better, but struggled a bit with the swim (only did 30 mins).
Sorry for the rant.
