Saturday morning I woke up before the family and headed to the park for a run. It was 25 degrees cooler than the previous Saturday! (Heaven!) My plan was a 4 mile run, but after my GPS/phone malfunctioned in the first quarter mile, I had to make some changes and start over. I had some more mishaps in the first mile (double knots, Delphyne. I've told you - double knots!), but the rest of the run was so enjoyable and the day was just beautiful.
I notoriously lose track of my laps and did another extra 1/4 mile at the end, so my 4 mile run was really 4.5. I look forward to being the proud owner of a Garmin someday.
I used the Galloway method for the first time on this run. I felt like I could have run forever, but I had to get home to my family. I needed to bring my kids to see their great-grandmother get married. I told you it was a beautiful weekend.
After doing chores and making sure I didn't skip out on grocery shopping, we headed out to the beach to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon and say our last goodbyes to Summer. We went with friends and had a great time walking the beach looking for shells and just playing in the sand and water.
Our friends' son is just a couple of weeks younger than ours. They are such a joy to watch:
We woke up to temperatures in the 50s this morning! Autumn is here, and I'm so excited for everything the season will bring!
Watching your progress over the past year, I've seen your strength and endurance through that year growing and growing. You have been truly amazing to watch!
As you know, I'm in the deep south, but the last two nights, our temps have dropped into the 40's and have wrecked havoc with my arthritis. Still, though, it is SO nice, and I'm able to leave the doors and windows open to let in the fresh air. So nice during the day!
What a wonderful way to spend the last day of summer!
If I had used his MM as a guideline, my intervals would have been :30/1:00. There was no way I could make myself get out there and do more walking than running. I wouldn't have enjoyed it at this point in my journey. (A few months ago - yes, but not now.) So I looked at my average pace instead of his suggested pace and went with 2:30/1:00 instead.
I did the 2:30/1:00 minute interval, and it felt great! I actually didn't feel like I was cheating. It felt a little strange at the beginning. I felt like people would wonder why I only made it 2:30 minutes before needing to walk, but after a while of feeling really strong, I really enjoyed my run. It went by so fast breaking it up into intervals like that. It kind of kept it exciting.
