I did this weekend and it was great! My parents live about 2 1/2 hours away from my current home. We typically drive down every four to six weeks to visit.
This particular visit was really nothing special. There were no birthday parties, football games, or any other celebrations. We just visited family and friends, and it was great!
On Saturday, we stopped by a car wash being held by a local youth organization. When we pull up, I saw my nephew, his adorable girlfriend, my uncle, and several other friends from high school. My daughter even went on a pony ride and I got a clean car! It was so great to see them all!
We then walked a few blocks over to my elementary school so that my daughter could play. She had a great time and I got to visit with more family and friends.
When we returned to mom and dad's, my nephew's girlfriend played her guitar and sang for us all in an impromptu concert right on the front porch. It was just great!
We attended church with my parents the next morning where I got to see more of my long time friends. After church, my other nephew and his twin 5 month old daughters stopped by to see us. They are so precious! Finally, my longtime friend (who grew up right across they street from me) noticed my car at mom and dad's and pulled in to catch up with us.
This fantastic weekend was filled with memories, love, and the people I hold most near and dear to my heart! I may not live there any more, but that small town will always be "home" to me.
If you read this, please take a moment to send someone you love a text, an email, a phone call, or stop by to visit. We tend to underestimate the power of positive relationships in our lives. Please keep yours strong!
If you have an old hatchet you need to bury with someone who used to be close to you, please be the bigger person and extend the hand of forgiveness. Life is too short to hold a grudge.
My uneventful weekend has inspired me to love a little deeper, pray a little harder, and do all I can to lead a long and healthy life!
