Plateaus Suck!

Saturday, October 02, 2010

Hello, everyone! Are you enjoying Fall? I am!!! I love this cuddle weather! I hope everyone is doing well! I'm doing alright, just busy! Unfortunately, I have hit that dreaded "plateau" I've heard so much about. I'm extremely impatient with it, and I can't wait for things to start moving again. I'm still killing myself at the gym and trying to be careful with my eating. What stinks is when I exercise for a long period of time, I immediately come home wanting to gnaw my arm off! Any other time in my life, when I would lose 5 or 10 pounds here and there, I would get easily discouraged and fall off the wagon. Not this time. I have worked way too hard for this and I want to lose this weight more than I've ever wanted anything in my life! 52 pounds so far! I've been stuck now for about 3 weeks. By now, I should have lost about 62. Hopefully, things will pick up again very soon! People are really starting to take notice in my weight loss, and that makes me so proud. I honestly don't ever feel like I'm going to give up anytime soon!!!! Has anyone out there experienced this "plateau"? How long did it last for you? What do you suggest I do to get the wheels turning again? Any advice would be great! Thanks everyone for your ongoing support! Have a great weekend! :)

Hey Erin! I had one that was like the whole month of September. I only lost like 3 pounds for the whole month! I had to take a serious look at my goals and I ended up backing them up. Originally, I wanted to be at goal by June 2011, I moved it back to September 2011 and that changed the number of calories that I was allowed to eat in a day. I really think that when I was at only 1500 a day PLUS exercising and burning off another 350 or so that I was getting into the 'starvation zone' and my body put the brakes on.

Since I changed my goals, I lost 3 pounds the first week and another 1.8 this week. Give it a shot!

Plateaus may suck but hey, GAINING is a WHOLE lot worse! :-)

Our bodies sometimes need to regroup...don't forget to pay attention to inches, as you may be shrinking in ways the scale can't measure...!

I agree with Kozkaa. shake up your day. I never exercise as I have bad knees and worse muscles. So when I hit a plateau I try to drink more water. Then pray a lot. It's no fun to be stuck. But this too will pass. emoticon

I've sat on a plateau for 2.5 months :) The advice everyone gives is to change things up - do different exercise, and try to throw off your body by eating up to your max amount of calories one day, and close to min the other day. I myself ignored the advice, I kept doing the same thing, so was still losing inches. And then the scale started moving again :)
