Cycling while crying

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Monday, September 27, 2010

Tonight I went to a cycling class at 24HourFitness, not knowing it was an advanced class. About 15 minutes into it, my entire shirt was wet from sweat!

I've participated in cycling classes before, and even though they were hard, they were absolutely nothing compared to this one. The room was dark, people were scattered all over the floor on their bikes, and the music was pumping in the background.

40 minutes into the class, we were pedaling as fast as we can, up for 3 seconds and down for 3 seconds. I felt every single muscle in my legs burn as if they were about to tear. The instructor kept saying "You can do this! Do it for yourself!" I repeated to myself over and over as I continued to give it my all.

Just as I thought we were finished, she said turn the resistance to 6 and pedal as fast as your body can possibly go for a whole minute. A minute is not a long time, but that minute felt like a day. She blasted the music even louder and we started our minute. 10 seconds into the pedaling, I started sobbing. So many thoughts rushed through my head. I thought to myself, "I can't believe I'm doing this! I can't believe Sara is actually doing this!" My legs were on fire, my butt was sore, and sweat even got into my eyes, which started burning. I did not care. I continued to cry and push myself.

Tonight, that minute, was the proudest minute of my entire life! I went beyond my pain and beyond that stupid thought that always tells you to quit. I conquered something I didn't even know was possible for me to do. I ran track in high-school and never, EVER came close to what I experienced tonight.

I will never again quit or give up! From now on, for the rest of my life to come, I am going to think of that moment and just keep pushing.

I feel AMAZING! To know that you overcame something you never thought was possible, feels great! Thank you 24HourFitness and thank you SparkPeople for helping me believe in myself!

I truly wish and hope that everyone can experience this feeling. It will change your world!

Congratulations on your goals and success. I know
it is not an easy task to get into an exercise
routine. Learning from myself it is hard for me to
get motivated to go and do exercise on equipment.

Lately the only exercise I have been doing is walking
and swimming. But the swimming one will be coming to
an end soon with summer being almost over and that is
when I start considering using my inside equipment
then.

But keep up the good work you are doing well.

That really is an inspiring story. emoticon I too believe that "The only thing that stops is you is you own will", which I thought when to my surprise I did unusually more rounds of jogging in the park one day than I thought I can do.

Now as I am saying that, I am currently enjoying a 6-inch sub, don't know when I'll reach there emoticon

emoticon Great to see your blog featured in the Spark Mail. I'm glad u pushed urself to finish the class.
My DD is 20, & works out on a regular basis. She joined a gym and went to the Spin Class. She did the full 60 minutes & the 7 women in the class came over when they were done & told her they couldn't believe that she had finished the entire class. The instructor told her that in seven years of teaching the class she had NEVER had a person finish the full class the first time. I told my DD that it was good that she's in that good of a shape to have gotten through it. So, I know what u did was hard.

How motivating this story is. Just last night during my work out I asked myself when did CAN'T (as in I can't do this) become the primary word in my vocabulary? I will think of you the next that word pops into my thoughts. Thank you!

Very inspiration story. I tried playing softball after many years of not. I was not as strong as you. The sprinting caused the front of my thighs to burn. That is when I joined SparkPeople. Thanks for the inspiration I am going to keep trying and sprint for first and hopefully my thighs will not feel like they are burning.

    Hi Sarab!
Great blog! I know what you mean! I've been lifting weights for 38 years, and have been doing cardio after weights for about 30 to 60 minutes. Well, about 2 years ago I started doing spinning classes, and I've been doing spin classes ever since. I've even invested in a gel seat and a pair of spin shoes lol! I like the sweating, pain, and then the feeling of accomplishment!
