Sorry for the disappearing act

I've invited everyone I know who has ever told me they wanted to lose weight to join Sparkpeople and no one has ever liked it as much as me. People tend to start using it, then slack off, then stop completely. Either that or they make an account and never even use it. It got really tiring and disappointing trying to get people to be supportive - let alone try to get them involved in something healthy.

For as long as I can remember I've been trying to get people in my life to be supportive of my efforts to lose weight. Sometimes people would be on board with me and it would be awesome. For example years ago me and a bunch of friends/acquaintances made a community on livejournal.com for our weight loss support. It was great at the time but it didn't last long. People are FICKLE. Its really hard for me to deal with when someone just drops out of caring about being healthy.

The problem with Sparkpeople is that every single person I've invited to the site says it's "too busy" and that there is "too much to figure out" which I never found to be a problem. I guess I am more tech savvy than I thought because I think SP is easy to use. Yeah, there is a lot more going on than I would personally prefer. Yeah, the design is extremely busy and distracting, plus the ads are annoying. Yeah, I would prefer something that looks like Facebook and is as easy to use. I got used to SP and its huge flaws though and i stuck with it for a long time. Then I was invited to another weight loss site by a friend called My Fitness Pal (MFP) and people that I know actually started to USE IT REGULARLY.

MFP looks like Facebook. It's easy to use. There are no crazy spinning wheels with points shoved in your face. There are no unwanted emails. There are no goodies or teams, just comments like FB. There are no ads. It's nice looking and easy to use. They have a cell phone app for my type of phone (and it works way better than the SP app for me). And most importantly 2 of my best friends and biggest weight loss supporters moved to that site. Yes they both had (still have) profiles here but they never used them consistently.

So I moved over there since July. I didn't move on to that site because it's new and novel for me. I was perfectly happy with SP and it's tools. It's just that I crave the support of the people in my life and on that site I can get it. I am still losing weight and keeping track of everything but I feel like I have to go where I have the most support. I appreciate everything my Sparkfriends have done for me and I am not going to delete my profile or anything. I just don't plan on using SP as my food and exercise tracker anymore.

Thank you to everyone who left me comments and goodies! Especially my WoW buddies. I miss you guys and I still don't have a WoW account unfortunately. I will probably be back after Cata comes out but right now it's not a priority mainly because of $$$$. I hope everyone is doing well and if you actually read all of this THANK YOU!

I definitely understand what you are saying! You thrive more with the support of those directly around you, and that is totally fine. I am just glad that you are still working toward a healthy life! That's what really matters anyway!

I have invited people too... but none of them even bothered to check out the site. I personally think it's because they didn't want to admit they needed to change things in order to get healthy... They wanted the easy way, and that's not what this site does-- and with good reason. Spark is the right thing for some people... and it's not for others!

Just know that we will always be here for you! If you ever need anything, let us know! And keep us updated too! I can't wait to celebrate all your successes!

I TOTALLY understand about being where your friends are. I've invited lots of people here and have had the same response. I'm the only one who uses it regularly. But that's alright for me. A few months ago I went through the stage of not using SP because nobody else was, but like everything else with me it was a stage I was going through.

I realized that if I relied on friends to use SP for ME to use SP, it meant that I was relying on them to lose weight too. Which wasn't working out so hot for me. Once I realized that, then I decided that I would do whatever "I" wanted!

Just make sure, that if your friends decide to leave MFP, that your diet doesn't go down the wayside too! And now you have me intrigued about it too. Btw.

Hope to see you on WoW after cata!
