hungry all the time

Friday, September 24, 2010

OK, my gastric bypass surgery is not working the way I had planned. I physically feel hungry all the time. I'm 7 wks out almost and should not be feeling hungry. i'm drinking my water and eating my portions as prescribed. But, an hour or less afterwards, I'm hungry again. My doctor said it is too much acid but we have tried all the meds for that and still hungry.
my next step is to have an endoscopy which i'm trying to arrange now. i have a feeling that something inside is not working right and that he may have to go back in and redo some things. not a pleasant thought but will do it if i have to i suppose. the only problem is that i was a cash pay and insurance did not cover it so i'm in debt for the first surgery. i can't afford another one. oh well, one day at a time, right?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments. I really appreciate it.
I'm eating low carb with low fat protein and no fruits. i am eating very simply because i do not want to stir things up. I think stress causes some of it but there's nothing i can do about that. i will find out on Friday because i have an endoscopy scheduled. Maybe then we will find out what is going on in there. At least we will be moving forward.

A few weeks ago, I was not eating often enough. I would go 4-6 hours without eating, then make stupid choices. Not saying that's what you are doing, just saying that just because you have the surgery doesn't mean you won't be hungry anymore. Try to not go more than 3 hours without eating at least a snack or a shake. I get hungry at night. It's not good....
I hope you find your answers Friday.

One of the reasons I had the RNY is because I felt hungry ALL the time. I have not felt hungry since my June 14th surgery, but I did have a complication. I had a stricture and 2 endoscopies with stretching procedures. It was a huge pain and I had to be on liquids like... forever.

I was self-pay, too.. and had surgery in Mexico.

I hope they find out why you're hungry all the time. Sounds like too much of the hunger hormone (grehlin).

Sorry its not working. Maybe you need to add more whole grains and veggies. Too much acid could be too much fruit.

Hate to hear that. I never had hunger as a problem. i had trouble eating enough, at first.
Are you getting enough protein? Have you lost weight?
Did the doctor say anything about snacks in between. I ate at first every 3 hours .
Hope you find out what is wrong. If something is not working right, the doctor should be responsible to get it right.

I'm sorry to hear that, and it wouldn't be what I expected or experienced either. Although I don't want you to have additional surgery, I do hope that one way or another that it can be remedied, if there is something not quite working correctly. Good luck and keep us posted!
