Old Enough to Remember “Pen Pals”? Now I Have SparkFriends!
When I was a nine year old in 4th grade, we were assigned a “Pen Pal” from a foreign country. This was part of our English & Geography classes. We were to write letters back and forth for the entire school year. This was an educational experience, but it also proved to be one of establishing a new friendship.
My pen pal was a girl a year older than myself from West Germany.
I used to look so forward to receiving her letters in the mail. I can still remember what they looked like. They were on that light blue air mail stationary (do they still make that?). Over time, a long distance friendship developed. We even sent Christmas presents and birthday presents to each other. Rita, became a dear and treasured friend. I still have very fond memories of that time.
Fast forward to the present…here I am, 51 years old and now I have SparkFriends. My new 21st century “Pen Pals” if you will.
I have met many kind and encouraging people here at SparkPeople.
We are specialty team members; we are faithful “blog cheer leaders” of each other’s blogs; we have met answering questions in the Message Board forum; I have also met new friends via other SparkFriends.
I can say that these NEW SparkFriends are already becoming DEAR friends.
I look so forward to their posts on my SparkPage, to receiving personal SparkMail messages, to the responses on my Blogs, to the wonderful surprise of logging into my account and finding a SparkGoodie waiting there for me to cheer me on!
Meeting you wonderful new friends here at SparkPeople is truly a blessing in my life.
Thank you for being the kind friends that you are to me!
I wish each of you much success with your healthy living goals and much happiness along the way!
