MIA for a bit, but I'm back!!

Friday, September 17, 2010

Wow….it’s been a while since I have blogged and I've missed you all terribly.

Well as most of you know I was down for the count a couple weeks ago with what I thought was strep throat. It was the worst pain that I have encountered in so long! I was a big baby too. I couldn’t eat or drink. It hurt so much to swallow. I consciously had to prepare myself each time I felt the need to swallow. I cried like a baby for 2 days. My poor husband….he told me that I am a horrible patient. I am a whiner….I just don’t get sick all that much but when I do, it’s usually bad sick and I’m a baby, I can’t help it! emoticon If it weren’t for the bottle of hydrocodone that I found (from a back injury a few years back), I would have considered death as an option!!! So…. I finally got the test results back in that next Tuesday and it was not strep. I just find that so hard to believe. I mean, is it possible for a throat culture to come back with a false negative result? They said I had a upper respiratory infection, aka, the common cold! I call BS on that one! Anyway…. I lost a couple of pounds that week. Not the way I want to do it, BTW and of course gained them back once I started eating again.

So, last weekend. Fully recovered, my whole family (well the ones that live in town anyway) went on a camping trip. We went to Fall Creek Falls for their annual Mountaineer Folk Festival. Allan, Trey and I left Thursday night and had a great time. This was the first time Trey has been with us in a few years, so I enjoyed spending time with him. My parents, sister and her hubby and 3 boys came out on Friday. It was the first time they had been camping. Let me tell you….we had a blast, even though it rained on us the majority of the time!! emoticon Their tent leaked, our tent leaked….all of our stuff was damp all weekend. But we made the most of it and ended up having a great weekend. And yes, I ate what I wanted and didn’t give a thought about it all weekend. We ate breakfast at the lodge one morning. The old all you can eat breakfast buffet…biscuits and gravy, French toast with this amazing cinnamon butter and syrup, more bacon than I care to admit, hash browns out the ying yang….oh sure there was fruit on the bar, but I walked right passed that straight to the chicken tenders (yes, on the breakfast bar, lol)! At the Folk Festival I had a big waffle cone with 2 huge scoops of ice cream. emoticon One cookies and cream and the other peanut butter chocolate. We had burgers and chips and one night we had big old T-Bone steaks w/ baked beans and slaw and deviled eggs… peanut butter cookies…. We also had Birthday cake and ice cream Saturday night. It was my sister’s and my nephew’s B-days, so we celebrated while we were there.

Oh…and not to mention the vast amounts of cherry vodka and cranberry juice I consumed one of the nights. emoticon I did gain 4 pounds as a result of all of my binging, as I knew I would (from my last camping episode) but I knew I would recover quickly!

Did I , you ask?

Yes yes yes!! I was pleased with my weigh in today. One pound down from the Friday before I got sick until now and I feel very good about it!

I do have some pics from our camping adventure. I’ll post them tonight. I can’t load them here at work.

So that has been why I have been MIA for a little bit. I am back now....spinning the wheel every morning and logging my food and keeping my calories in check and watching those party pounds come back off!
emoticon emoticon

I am no longer scared or threatened of party pounds! I no longer dread a special occasion where I have to say "NO" to something I love to eat so much. I understand fully now...what "lifestyle change" actually means and DON"T find it "cliche" to say..."It's a lifestyle change!"

I have missed you all and am trying to catch up reading everyone’s blogs to see what YOU all have been up to.

Much love on this fabulous Friday!

It sounds like food heaven to me! I must admit feeling jealous because I've been sticking to the plan pretty hard and have not lost for 6 weeks. Anyway, glad you're back at it!

    Welcome back!! Missed you!!!

That sounds like one humdinger of a sore throat. I hate sore throats. I agree with you that it sounds like more than a cold.

The camping trip and food sounded wonderful!! You and your family do such fun things. I love everything you ate and they sound like things I would have chosen. I'm glad Trey could go too. Is he still at Show Biz?

Missed ya around these parts! As far as your cold..yes, strep tests can be a false negative, BUT colds can cause severe throat pain. If you had a lot of post nasal drip...that alone can make it feel like there are razor blades in the back of your throat. Best thing to do is take decongestants and motrin for the pain!!!

BTW...LOVE your attitude at the end! Amazing feeling, isn't it?!

Glad you are feeling better. Camping always involves large quantities of junk food....unless you're truly backpacking and have to haul it all around. I love camping. You can leave your phone behind, stay up late or go to bed early, walk/hike/throw a frisbee, play a game, drink, and generally leave your normal like behind for a little while.
