The edge of Igor at the Ritz
Thursday, September 16, 2010
We're getting the very out fringe of Igor, have been since yesterday and it will continue for a few days (he's so huge). But we're talking winds of maybe 25-30 mph, gusts of more, but nothing of hurricane force here. Periodic heavy rain. And very high swells and rip currents - so no swimming out far for me, I'm a decent swimmer but don't want to battle the water. Other than that, things are fine and we don't need to worry about this storm. Not like poor Bermuda. Igor is a MONSTER - he really is!
I do like being at the Ritz. They have turn down service, silky soft cotton sheets, tons of pillows, speedy internet, a big room, a huge bathroom - and little things like fresh orchids in the public restrooms. Plus the training group is feeding us, and it's all I can do to hold back and not gobble down three chocolate croissants for breakfast.
Apparently someone nominated me to be one of several teachers to work with territorial and district educators to revamp the entire school improvement planning process - this includes re-writing the manual as well as what should go into the plan, plus evaluation processes and forms - wow. This is huge. We'll be meeting like this every month. Though alternating between here and St. Croix - so next month we fly there.
This is going to be interesting.
Plus the deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction chatted with me and said he's working on federal funds to reinstate the art coordinator, and would I please apply for the job. He even talked about restructuring it so I could stay at my school part-time. I'm not sure I want to be an administrator, I have so much more fun with my own students. But that way, I could help so many more. Ah well, no need to decide right now, they don't have the $ or permission to reinstate that job. But I'm honored to have been asked!!!!!!
Okay, DH is napping on our cushy bed, I think it's time for dinner.
