Bentley's Breakthrough

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Marley Bentley
I am happy to report that my dog FINALLY walks at my side without pulling, running ahead and zig zaging back and forth so excited that there there was no controlling him. I adopted Bentley a year old Maltipoo, 9 months ago from a rescue group. He came from a family who was moving and could not take him along. He was didn't have too many issues other than jumping up on people and pulling on his leash. For the last 9 months I have been trying to get to understand that I want him to walk next to me. My other Maltipoo Marley pulled too but she figured out what I wanted a few months ago. The fact that both dogs are Maltese and Poodle both smart breeds didn't make much difference when it comes to intelligence. They are cute and have a happy go lucky temperaments but not real bright. It took a long time and lots of hours walking for them to get it, but they did FINALLY. It took lots of patience. Even though there were many times I though I would never see the day I didn't give up. Now we have a great time everytime we go out walking. The same thing goes for the attitude that leads to success when it comes to weight loss. Don't give up, just keep on trying. You CAN do it!!

How interesting that you drew a paralel between learning to get the dogs to do what you want (I belive it is us that have to learn how to show them what we want emoticon ) and learning to do the same with ourselves. I totaly agree.
I am impressed with what you have done - both with your pups and your weight loss! emoticon
You started at about the same place as I and are almost there! I still have 33 pounds to my goal and right now I am not doing my best. But I am sure I will soon be back on the right track.
Congratulations again!

Great job. Are your doggies barky? I am working on that with mine, he is very verbal.
I agree that we must never give up, with doggies or with our own healthy goals.

emoticon Thats great. Glad you have some furry friends to go walking with you. The advice at the end to not give up and to keep on trying is very good also. Thanks for the reminder. emoticon

Is she a dog whispere? If so could she give a cue to my dogs who still pull me everywhere until we're all exhausted! 3 yrs and I still can't make them understand.
