Giving up Artificial Sweeteners

Monday, September 13, 2010

Playing Wii Tennis with a friend.

It is really fun to do Wii games. Tennis and Boxing seem to be the most physical of the games so far. I know I don't burn off as many calories as with the Taebo or Turbo Jam, but it sure is a lot of fun. I don't have to talk myself into doing something. I actually can feel my upper body has been doing something. I think I burned off a whole lot more calories boxing a friend of mine on Saturday than it said. It really depends how much you get into it.

Vino and I had a long talk again yesterday. He really wants me to succeed at losing weight, so there were some points he made that I am still trying to get my brain wrapped around. First off, he wants me to get away from the artificial sweeteners. I don't know if any of you grew up like me. My mom was the Saccharine Queen. She used saccharine in her coffee back when I was a little girl. I went on my first official diet when I was only 11. Which means I have been using artificial sweeteners for 36 years.

So one of my goals this week is to get off of artificial sweeteners. I don't know if that means I will replace it with sugar or just try not using the saccharine tablets in my coffee. I did try that this morning. I am not dying. It will take time for me to get used to it. I thought if I can't deal with just creamer in my coffee, I will add a teaspoon of sugar. The other place I get most of my artificial sweeteners is Diet Coke. I figure I shouldn't be drinking the stuff anyway. It has aspertame in it, which I know is not good.

Well, that is what I am doing to take control this week. One small step- although it will feel big.

Way to go on with the wii and I have been doing a lot of research on stuff, and getting rid of the artificial sweeteners is a good thing. I am having a hard time myself with these, so with me trying to become heart healthy, sugar substitute, well, guess reg. sugar or none. I have been using some honey, just not much.

Just a thought....you can use honey to sweeten some foods and it is completely natural. The Bible speaks of eating honey, although I believe it also advises against using it too much. Best wishes to you.

Mary, I love the video!! Looks like a ton o' fun!!!! Keep it up!!

As for the sweeteners, I agree...we should all get off of them. I drink them too in diet sodas and tea. I recently read an article that sweeteners have actually added to our weight problems. They increase our sugar cravings. So even though they don't put on the pounds, they may cause us to eat sugar elsewhere!! Yikes!!

You are determined and you will succeed!! I am rootin' for ya!!!

Good for you doing the Wii. I don't have one but I do want to get one. I don't use sweeteners but I do have Diet Coke once in a while. I am trying to stop that all together.

Wii is one of the greatest inventions of our time. Artificial sweeteners can be good for a particular beverage like iced coffee I find personally. Other than that I stay away from sweet as much as possible.

I long ago stopped using sweeteners in my hot tea and also in the iced tea that I make. I still do drink Crystal Lite and S.F. Koolaid. I've been cutting down on Diet Coke but have not given it up.
