Let's Start at the Very Beginning...

Julie Andrews knew it...it's a very good place to start.

I have 18 days until my first "official" check-in with myself. By September 30th I wanted to get to 250 lbs. I have adjusted that, to 258 lbs. That's what I actually SHOULD be at according to SparkPeople. It's also 10% of my body weight.

Now, I'm not entirely sure if I can do 13 more lbs in 18 days. Healthily. Maybe I will have a good week and lose 7 though, so who knows. My body is sometimes wonky like that and I'll drop a whole bunch all of a sudden. Maybe if my body actually gets out of perpetual PMS mode it could happen.

I've been so low on motivation though for this whole business lately, it's almost scary. I was tired one week, ridiculously so. Then I was acting like a Hoover vacuum cleaner last week and sucking up everything in my path. I'm surprised there isn't a trail of destruction behind me. Yesterday was just plain disappointing. And the worst part of it is? I didn't realize it was disappointing until the end of the day when my DAD pointed it out to me. I had rice for lunch. I had tacos for breakfast (don't ask). I had Chinese food for dinner (hello salt!), which of course meant more rice. And I had a cupcake for dessert. Honest to goodness, I didn't realize I had carbed out until my dad said, "Well, you had a sort of carb heavy day didn't you?" when I told him that I'd had rice for lunch. It was jarring (but that cupcake was totally worth it).

So, last night I did some searching. Random stuff like, "How to get Shakira's body" and the like. I'm never going to be a size 2, and I don't really think I want to be a size 2. I think a size 8 would be a good size for me overall. Maybe a size 6 on good days. Anyway, looking up those little things about how celebrities and other people have to work out because they are constantly dancing and things on stage helped a bit. I happily went to yoga this morning. I am glad to be going to the gym this afternoon...and frankly the next 18 days just look a little brighter.

So, I'm giving myself an 18 day challenge. The long weekend I'm gone will not be filled with nearly so much working out and eating right, because I will have quite a bit less control over my options, so I want to feel good up until that point.

Goals for the next 18 days:

1) Workout at least 17 of the 18 days - for 1 hour+
2) Eat within my calorie range (1200-1600 calories) for at least 16 of the 18 days, other two no more than 2000 calories
3) Write down everything I eat--good, bad, and ugly--for the next 18 days
4) Start doing measurements of food again, for the first 5 days of 18 days to get back on track
5) Do one extra yoga class a week or a spin or cardio-kickbox class once a week
6) Try to workout (short) before voice lessons on Mondays as well as after voice lessons
7) Have a decent dinner every night, and not just a protein shake
8) Have one real "treat" item (i.e., cupcake, cookie, candy bar) once a week for next two weeks

I don't think these are too unreasonable for the next 18 days. It's really only 2 1/2 weeks.

After that 2 1/2 weeks I will readjust for the next 3 months period, from October 3rd to December 31st. Ooh, holidays and winter food. That is going to be interesting for sure.

EDIT: after some good advice from my commenters, I have decided that I'm going to adjust my intake of calories to something higher. I'm going to aim for between 1500 and 1900 a day. I did the calculations from the SparkPeople calorie calculator myself, and then thinking about what I eat and what I'm satisfied with currently I think I can raise it a bit and maybe give myself a little more energy too. For a 2.5-3lb weight loss weekly that should be about right.

    It seems like you had quite a rough time lately but still you don't give up - good for you! We all have bad days, or as a matter of fact even bad weeks, but the most important thing is to just get back on the wagon and do what's right. Don't beat yourself up and don't overdo it, trying to lose too much weight in a short time period. Try to follow your own body rhythme and don't forget you're in it for the long run... Keep sparking!

    It sounds like you have a good plan in front of you! However, have you been able to keep a similar plan in the past? If not, it might be a bit of a stretch. Give yourself a little bit more leniency, I'd be most worried, personally for me, about working out every day for at least an hour and maintaining such a low caloric intake (I just upped mine in fact!). Be good to yourself and good things will follow! Of course, being good to yourself also does mean challenging your body but within your limits and pushing those limits when it feels right!
    About Shakira, I love her. I don't necessarily need her body but I would LOVE to dance like her! And I try. Frequently. I hope no one can see me! But it's fun.
