Piriformis, a real pain in the butt!

Thursday night I ran a local 5K race. I did my usual warm-up and felt great as the run started. The first mile included a pretty good size downhill run. By the 1.5 mile mark I was starting to feel a groin pain. By the 2 mile mark I was really hurting. I know I should have stopped at that point but I didn't. By the time I drove home I felt like someone had a clamp on my butt and they were constantly applying pressure. My right leg was totally non-weight bearing by that time. Fortunately Friday morning my DH found his father's adjustable walking cane, without it I would have had to hug the wall to get to the bathroom. I had heard of piriformis syndrome pain but had not experienced it before. Well I have now. I work with a physical therapist so I am now being treated for the condition. She isn't a runner so she has pretty much told me the Oct. 16 half marathon is out. I'm not so sure about that. I will do what I am supposed and really work on this rehab so I can get back out there on the road as soon as possible. I know that I don't want to really screw this up and be in pain for a long time. This really is a pain in the butt.
