1 year on Spark!!!!

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Today is my 1 year anniversary on SparkPeople. I began my journey on Labor Day, 9/6/2009...one last day of eating and drinking whatever and not feeling too bad about it!!! emoticon I remember it like it was yesterday...I ate spaghetti for dinner that day!!! I used the nutrition tracker to put in my calories and I don't remember how much it was, but I do remember that it was more than enough. The very next day, I began my attempt on a raw foods diet. I lasted on that for about 3 weeks, but it did jump start my metabolism and I felt so much better. I slowly added back in cooked foods, with the exception of red meat. From September until December, I did great on SparkPeople.

Then, my dad got sick. He had a stroke on December 15...and then my grandma got sick...she had one leg amputated in January and the other in July. For about 2 months, during the time, my father was in the hospital and rehab, I did my best to maintain on Spark. The NUTRITION TRACKER IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon Even on days when I got up to go to work at 7, worked from 8 to 4, drove an hour and a half in rush hour traffic to the hospital/rehab, stayed there from 6 til 8, drove back home, sat down to grade papers/plan lessons, and finally hitting the bed, just to get up and do it all over again, I still tried to find time to track my calories. I may not have had the time or energy to exercise, but I kept up with my calories. I made it to the point where I could guesstimate and estimate how many calories I was consuming, so that I could still stay on track, even when I was away from a computer until I could log it later.

Now, a year later, I'm 51 pounds lighter than I was a my last physical. I'm 2-3 dress sizes smaller, and I'm ready to get on the grind again. I still have about 10 -15 more pounds that I would like to lose to get where I want to be. People keep telling me not to lose anymore, but I know...I'm still about 20 pounds overweight according to my BMI. No more XL/ XXL's for me...I can wear a M/L. A new school year, new goals, ready to SPARK it up some more!!!! emoticon emoticon
