Long Run/Walk Success!

This Saturday, Joe and I woke up to a beautiful fall day, bright and cool. We decided to head to Percy Warner Park for our C25K run/walk on the 5.8 loop. I asked him what he wanted to do after we did the required intervals, and he said we could wait and see how we felt. There were a ton of people out there, but once we got into the park, it was very quiet. We did our intervals and were feeling great, so I suggested that we continue to do the intervals the rest of the way (90 sec run/90 sec walk, 3 min run/3 min walk). And we did it! Including the MASSIVE uphills that went on forever. As we were getting closer and were heading downhill, I suggested that we run the last bit, so we ran the last 11 minutes and finished the whole thing in 1:15 or so. We were SO proud of ourselves.

I'm especially proud of Joe because he's never run much before ever, and he was such a good sport. I told him to stop us if he felt any pain in his ankles or knees or shins, but he felt great the whole time. Now I know that we're not too far off from running the whole 5.8 loop, and now Joe and I are even talking about doing a half-marathon in the spring. I think Joe also feels a huge sense of accomplishment that we did that, and it's motivating him to keep on running. I really can't say enough good things about C25K, especially since it's gotten my husband to run when he used to swear that he would never run!
