First experience with dumping syndrome!

Friday, September 03, 2010

Well, chicken does not like me yet. I had about 1/2 ounce of chicken breast for dinner and 2 oz of mashed sweet potato that I baked. I had prepared more but could not finish it. Then I felt ill. I was determined that I was NOT going to throw up because, well, I just don't like that. LOL

Did I have a choice? NO! My husband is working the local HS football game so it was just me with the dog. He came running to see what was wrong with me as if he could help. He's so sweet. I'm sure the neighbors could hear me. There's just no feminine way to throw up, is there?

OK, they say that dumping is our friend! In that case, I should feel honored to have met a new friend.

thanks for all the comments. I'm just using the eating plan that my dietician and doctor recommended. I'm going on my 5th week post op. I guess everyone's body is different. Mine has changed alot since surgery. I can no long eat certain foods for now. Today, I'm sore from the incident.

I have experienced the chicken not staying down. But i tried to eat it too fast, and not chew it up enough. It was when i first started out on solid foods.
My dietitian encouraged me to start out with fish, it is higher in protein and I guess easier to kind of chew up into almost mush. Smile!. I ate salmon, tilapia, and shrimp. Be sure the chicken is not dry, keep it moist.
I hope that is your last dumping , but I doubt it.
It's been five months and I have experienced 5 dumping . I swear each time it will be the last.
Good luck

I've been eating chicken since week 3! I'm in week 5 and that is basically all and fish, turkey, that I can tolerate.
Maybe it was more the sweet potato? Some starchy foods don't go down too well for me.

according to my doctor, chicken is the last thing you should add back to your diet because it is the hardest on your pouch. apparently, it is harder to digest than other proteins. That seemed strange to me but i totally understand now. So, I suppose that the best thing for me is to eat fish, chopped meat for now. maybe after 6 wks or later, i can have it. i have also had problems with really lean beef. if it's 90% lean, it's okay if i kind of make little meatloaf patties out of it.
