If you are anything like me, the holiday weekends are the weekends that are a lot easier to lose track of your goals, and to lose track of eating healthy and maintaining a healthy calorie count.. A lot of family get togethers, picnics, bar-b-q's, and an all around atmosphere to over indulge.

I myself, will try to maintain a good healthy eating habit, BUT, if I do stray off the path, it's not the end of the world. We all have our lapses. The important thing is to get back on the wagon, and take back control, and fix what we have done.

A little more exercise for a day or two, will probably have us right back where we were. Just make a concerted effort to get back to your usual Sparkpeople lifestyle.

Bottom line-Enjoy the weekend. Have fun. We will all get through this, and continue our journey to a new and healthy you.

Being here discussing it instead of silently overindulging, is a definite sign of progress over past catastrophic behaviors, wouldn't you agree?

    Nice to meet you!

Thanks for the reminder; very timely for me. Stepped on the scale this a.m. and it is up emoticon . It was eating the samples of new products that are being offered in our cafeteria this new school year. The staff were "expected" to taste them so we can convey the quality, ie how good palatable they are; so taste I did.

Today is a new day. I'll make a better choice today.

Hi Larry, Thanks for the awesome tips. I was really dreading this weekend, since we have several dinners/outings planned. I feel like every time that I get a good handle on this 'lifestyle change' a weekend comes across that sets me back into unhealthy habits. I AM NOT going to let it happen this time.

Thankyou Larry for this important reminder. So much temptation all around us and we can still enjoy, just do it in moderation and try to make the healthiest choices we can make and when we fall off and don't eat as healthy as we should,as soon as you can get back on the healthy lifestyle habit we have been following here on Spark. Best Wishes and have a pleasant Labor Day weekend! emoticon Diana emoticon

That is so true Larry. We are humans and not perfect, but that is what makes this such a good site. We have to learn to change our habits and not make food a priority at family functions, make spending time we them the priority. But when things don't always works as we plan, we know it is not the end of the world and jump right back on track. Thanks for reminding me (us) to enjoy life and not fret the mistakes we might make....:)

A healthy outlook....planning is my best defense and then when I find that some of my choices could have been better...well, I just get right back to the beating myself up....
Had a great 6.5 mile run this morning, the weather has gotten cool which is a runners gift and since it is so cool and windy I think the usual Labor day festivities are going to be dampened a bit (pun intended). Have a good one!

You have a great weekend as well. I'll be at the State Fair with all the tempting corn dogs
(not for me) cotton candy, popcorn, greasy sandwiches, etc. Lucky for me, my camper will
be stocked with plenty of veggies from my garden, fresh fruit and healthy snacks. So you can see, the State Fair fare is for someone's else's consumption LOL!

I agree with that! I won't have too much temptation this week-end...tho some of the holidays I do allow a bit here and there. I choose something I really love, like a hot roll, then I only put some Brummel & Brown on it, no margarine, or butter! So I am able to have an indulgence, tho not totally blow it! I fill up on fruits and veggies. I think we can actually take one day a week to eat a bit off track...for example if I really crave french fries, I will allow one day to eat them, tho that is the ONLY thing I can have that is off track...and I will have them at Applebees where they are prepared in a healthier fashion!
Too much deprivation can ruin a good thing!! I hope you have a great time!!

I remember when long holiday weekends and family gatherings were a big temptation, but now I think of long weekends as opportunities! Opportunities to exercise a little more, get some needed rest, catch up on projects and chores, take my dogs on a hike, and spend time with loved ones. Food is way down low on my priority list now finally!! Life is good!!

You are so right Larry, after all we have to be able to enjoy our lives, and not feel so deprived of everything..Have a great week end!
