Praise God for another super-de-duper day...more great doctor news!!!

Friday, September 03, 2010

Ken had an appointment this afternoon with a kidney doctor...an appointment his family doctor had set up because his creatinine level was too high. Ken was confused about this because he has never had a problem with his kidneys. I took the results of Ken's blood tests taken since July with us to the appointment. His creatinine level in July was 1.1 which was in the normal range; August 10, 1.3; August 19, 1.4; and August 20, 1.3 coming back down. I thought maybe all the dyes and testing he had was causing some problems. How Dr. M said none of the dyes or radiation used for the tests he had would cause the creatinine levels to do that. However, since all the tests that were done had to be with "nothing to eat or drink after midnight and some of the test weren't done until 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, the problem was probably due to dehydration. The doctor told Ken that this would be a natural reaction to dehydration especially with all the heat we've had. Ken always drinks plenty of water and was told to continue. After some discussion, the doctor said that they won't do anything at this time, but he wants a copy of Ken's blood work which will be done in the next couple of weeks. If his levels are back in the normal range, Dr. M doesn't want to see Ken again unless Ken needs him some day down the road. Praise God for another good doctor report!!! Ken will be keeping an eye on his creatinine levels and anything else pertaining to his kidneys.
By the time we got back to Waynesburg, Ken decided to hang out with McKenzie and I until her parents come home...didn't know at the time, they were both going to be later than usual.

McKenzie was so exited when she came home from school today and saw her "TA" (her name for Ken) was with me.

She changed her clothes right away as she had soccer practice tonight.

She said, "Nanny, who are your siblings?" I replied, "they are your brothers and sisters" to which she said, "I don't have any brothers or sisters." I proceeded to ask her what happened as this was a very weird conversation. She looked at me with a very strange expression and said, "They said on the bus that you're supposed to hate your siblings and I didn't know who they were, but you don't either, do you? I don't think you should hate anyone but the siblings don't even ride my bus." Believe me when I say it was all I could do to keep from laughing. We did have a conversation about liking and disliking (I thought that hate was a really strong word for dislike) things that people did and the things they said. She decided that some of the older kids needed to show some respect. It was all I could do to keep a straight face. Such a wise little girl. She doesn't miss anything that goes on around her.
After having a healthy snack of celery and peanut butter, she practiced her piano lesson and read 2 chapters of the "4 Chapter Book" she brought home from school. They aren't having any homework until next week, she said.
Even though it was very hot, the kids still had a great time at soccer practice,

taking breaks often, drinking water to stay hydrated as they needed or wanted, or just sitting for a few minutes.

While waiting for her dinner, she read the last two chapters of her book. She was so excited because it was a "hard" book and she was able to read it by herself. She just finished her bath when her daddy came home so she was able to spend the rest of her evening with daddy as mommy was working late. As I was leaving, I heard her reading from her Bible stories book.
God is definitely working in this young child's life as he does in mine and I thank him for this. Our children are never too young to learn about God and his love for all of us and to know that God does indeed answer our prayers. I praise God for the time we get to spend together no matter what we are doing.
May you have a wonderful weekend as you remember to thank God for all that is happening in your lives...
Blessings, love and hugs to all,
Helen
